Rihanna, the global pop singer, has been named as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary for Barbados. The pop star hails from the Caribbean island, and has demonstrated her love and commitment to the country over the island throughout her successful career.

Rihanna, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, will be responsible for promoting education, tourism and investment for Barbados. The singer was appointed as one of Barbados’ Cultural Ambassadors in 2008.

In this role, she took part in promotional campaigns across its tourism industry on behalf of the ministry. Her new role will take her into new areas, using her global influence to improve the island’s economy and various other industries.

“Rihanna has a deep love for this country and this is reflected in her philanthropy, especially in the areas of health and education. She also shows her patriotism in the way she gives back to this country and continues to treasure the island as her home.”

Explained Mia Mottley, the Prime Minister of Barbados. The Prime Minister also added:

“Rihanna has a deep love for this country and this is reflected in her philanthropy, especially in the areas of health and education. She also shows her patriotism in the way she gives back to this country and continues to treasure the island as her home.”

Rihanna was born in Saint Michael in Barbados and brought up in Bridgetown. She was discovered by American record producer Evan Rogers, during his visit to the island in 2003. Her first hit "Pon de Replay" was a huge success across the world, and she has gone on to win multiple awards and accolades.

Rihanna stated:

“I couldn’t be more proud to take on such a prestigious title in my home country. Every Barbadian is going to have to play their role in this current effort, and I’m ready and excited to take on the responsibility. I look forward to working with Prime Minister Mottley and her team to re-imagine Barbados.”

The island of Barbados is located in the Caribbean Sea, and is home to magnificent natural landscapes. These include sweeping white sand beaches that are fringed with swaying palm trees, aquamarine, crystal clear sea; and rolling hills that are teeming with exotic flora and fauna.

Apart from their stunning beaches holidaymakers of all ages can also visit a wide range of attractions in Barbados. These include the Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary, the Flower Forest, Andromeda Gardens, and the magnificent Harrisons Cave, a limestone cave system with stalactites, stalagmites and babbling streams.
