EarthCheck Awards Gold Certification to Five Centara Hotels in Thailand and Maldives

EarthCheck has awarded Gold certification to five properties under the Centara Hotels & Resorts brand in Thailand and the Maldives. The awarded hotels include Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao Bangkok, Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resorts Pattaya, Centara Grand Beach Resort Phuket, Centara Kata Resort Phuket, and Centara Grand Island Resort & Spa Maldives.

EarthCheck Awards Gold Certification to Five Centara Hotels in Thailand and Maldives

Centara Hotels and Resorts has revealed that five of its properties have received the coveted Gold certification from EarthCheck. The Gold status is only awarded after the property or company has had five years of continuous Silver Certification, following an independent assessment.

Centara Hotels and Resorts announced that five of its hotels in Thailand and the Maldives received the certification. These include Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao Bangkok, Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resorts Pattaya, Centara Grand Beach Resort Phuket, Centara Kata Resort Phuket, and Centara Grand Island Resort & Spa Maldives.

Together, the five hotels reduced their Carbon footprint by 37 kg of CO2 equivalent per guest night. Their greenhouse gas emissions have been improved on average by 30 per cent compared to the global best practice benchmark.

The leading Thailand-based hotel group has a total of 10 Gold certified properties, and another five hotels with Silver certifications. Centara first received a Gold certification in 2015.

“To celebrate 10 Gold certified properties, we committed to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 5 per cent in 2018. These accomplishments motivate the rest of our teams as we continue our efforts to bring about positive environmental change.”
