Royal Caribbean invests millions to upgrade CocoCay Island in the Bahamas

Currently operating over 20 ships, Royal Caribbean International is one of the world’s most successful cruise lines. Founded in Norway and based in Miami, the company controls 21.9 per cent of the cruise market worldwide. Royal Caribbean looks to keep growing and pleasing its customers, as it invests over £100 million in upgrading its Perfect Day Island Collection, which is made up of exclusive private island settings all over the world; from Asia to Australia to the Caribbean.

As part of this initiative, the cruise has already started renovating its private island CocoCays in the Bahamas. Works to transform the island will be carried out in different phases, starting on September 2018 with the completion of a new pier. The final phase will conclude by the end of 2019, with the final phase, Coco Beach Club, which is set to open in November.

When referring to this hefty investment, Michael Bayley, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International said:

“It's true that our ships are technological and engineering marvels in their own right and offer a multitude of unexpected experiences; but our destinations are an equally important part of the cruise vacation. We are introducing the Perfect Day Island Collection to deliver the most memorable vacation for adventure seekers on land and onboard our ships. Once completed Perfect Day at CocoCay will be the ultimate family destination in the Caribbean.”

The millionaire investment will comprise a wide range of upgrades with wonderful attractions. One of the key hooks for visitors is set to be Thrill Waterpark. Featuring two large water towers with 13 slides (the most slides found in any waterpark in the Caribbean), the aquatic wonderland will include the 135-foot-tall Daredevil's Peak, the tallest waterslide in North America. Other amazing features are Oasis Lagoon, the Caribbean's largest wave pool, and a child-friendly obstacle course pool.

The adventure continues for adrenaline lovers, as upgrades will bring about the installation of a 1,600-foot zip line that criss-crosses the island at up to 50 feet high and features the only water landing in the Caribbean. For those who want to go even higher, Up, Up and Away could be one of the most exhilarating experiences (with amazing views at that!).The helium balloon floats up to 450 feet above the ground providing for the highest vantage point in The Bahamas.

Finally, there is space for sun-bathing travellers who will get enjoy two specially designed beaches: Chilli Island and South Beach. Those seeking blissful tranquillity will prefer the first one, which boasts pristine, crystal-clear tropical waters and white powder-like sand lined with many cabanas and daybeds for relaxation; those who prefer a more active beach experience will find fun at the second with volleyball, beachside basketball, football, paddle boarding, glass-bottom kayaking and zorbing in an inflatable zorb ball. Upon completion, the exclusive Coco Beach Club will offer an upscale island experience that will feature the first overwater cabanas in The Bahamas.
