Hotel Xcaret in Cancun to become the first hotel in America to receive EarthCheck Certification

The Hotel Xcaret in Mexico is planning to make history by becoming the first hotel in the Americas to gain the Certification of Planning and Design from EarthCheck. The 900-room resort will be assessed on its performance in areas including greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency, conservation, land use planning, and social and cultural management.

The newly opened Hotel Xcaret resort in Mexico is looking to become the first hotel in the Americas to receive the Certification of Planning and Design from EarthCheck. Tourism business that receive the prestigious certification proves their commitment to environmental and social performance.

The luxury resort in Mexico was designed with nature at the forefront and it has implemented practices that help protect the environment. The five-star property opened to guests in Cancun in January 2018.

To receive the EarthCheck certification, the resort is measured on its key performance areas. These include greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency, conservation efforts, ecosystem conservation, social and cultural management, and the use of land.

"We are very satisfied with the great response we have had, being a new hotel and in a destination as competitive as the Riviera Maya, we have maintained an occupation of 83 percent just one month after opening."

Explained Francisco Gutierrez, the General Manager of the Xcaretdestination hotels division.

The eco resort combines modern design with nature and is home to pristine beaches, winding rivers, secluded coves, suspensions beds and swimming pools. With 900 suites, the resort is divided into three different sections for families and groups, adults only, and spa and wellness. Suites boast private balconies that overlook the tranquil white sand beach, private coves, river or tropical gardens. Swim-up suites offer direct access to the swimming pool, while luxury Master Suites offer private infinity pools.

Facilities at the huge resort include the Muluk Spa and Wellness centre which is nestled in the jungle by the river. Guests can enjoy a wide selection of luxury treatments and therapies that have been inspired by nature and take place in massage caves. The hotel boasts ten diverse restaurants where guests can savour gourmet cuisine created by local Mexican chef Orlando Trejo.

Located 45 minutes from Cancun International Airport, holidaymakers staying at Hotel Xcaret can enjoy being close to pristine beaches, lush jungles and ancient Mayan ruins and temples. The resort is Destinations Xcaret’s first five-star resort in Mexico, and is part of a 10-year plan. The plan will see the development of a new tourism complex on 914 acres of tropical land that will provide a total of 6,000 guest rooms and suites.
