Fairmont Maldives Sirru Fen Fushi to open in April 2018

Fairmont Hotels and Resorts has revealed that it will launch a new island resort in the Maldives in April this year. The Fairmont Maldives Sirru Fen Fushi, which means "secret water island" will boast 120 lavish villas.

Located on the island of Gaakoshibee in the northern Shaviyani Atoll in the Maldives, on one of the country’s largest resort lagoons, the new resort will be set on an idyllic stretch of soft white sand beach. It will be accessible via a 55-minute seaplane flight from the main Velana International Airport. The property is also home to the first underwater sculpture museum in the Maldives. The museum will be created by renowned British artist Jason deCaires Taylor, who is one of the world’s "underwater naturalists".

Catering for couples, families and groups, the resort’s luxury villas overlook the sparkling turquoise sea. Guests can also stay in luxury tented jungle villa accommodation that sits within a star-lit grove. Villa options include Water Sunrise Villas, Three-bedroom Beach Sunset Villas, and Beach Sunrise Villas.

The island retreat will also offer upscale facilities including three restaurants and a bar. These include the all-day dining Raha Market restaurant, KATA with Japanese cuisine and a rooftop bar, Onu Onu Bar, a Bamboo pool bar, and Azure with decadent delights. There will also be a lavish bar with pampering treatments and therapies.

Fairmont Hotels and Resorts has been operating since 2011 and is owned by Accor Hotels. Fairmont Maldives Sirru will be joining the brand’s luxury collection of properties around the world. These include The Plaza in New York, The Savoy in London, Fairmont Peace Hotel in Shanghai and Fairmont Le Château Frontenac in Québec City.

Jason deCaires Taylor is a world-famous sculptor, scuba diver, underwater photographer and conservationist. The British artist has created a number of underwater museums around the world in a bid to lure divers away from natural coral reefs in popular scuba diving destinations so they can be replenished.

Taylor opened his first underwater museum in Molinere Bay in Grenada in the Caribbean in 2006. He then went on to launch the world's "largest underwater sculpture museum" called MUSA, which sits in the waters off the coast of Cancun in Mexico and is home to 500 life-size sculptures that reflect the local Mayan people and culture.
