Rosewood Half Moon Bay Antigua set to open in 2021

The long-anticipated redevelopment of one of the Caribbean's most lauded beaches is well underway with the appointment of a hotel management company and a date set for the opening of the new Rosewood Half Moon Bay Antigua in 2021.

Rosewood Half Moon Bay Antigua set to open in 2021

An opening date has been set for the long-anticipated new resort at Antigua’s Half Moon Bay, which is regularly named among the world’s most beautiful beaches. Destination development company Replay Resorts recently signed a deal with Rosewood hotels to open the new Rosewood Half Moon Bay on the Caribbean island in 2021.

The high-end resort will be spread out on 132 acres of oceanfront along Half Moon Bay and feature 47 pavilion-style suites, including an ultra-luxurious, three-bedroom presidential suite. The ocean-facing rooms will have private infinity plunge pools, hammocks, open-air baths and showers with live orchid walls in each bathroom.

The resort village will encompass an adults-only pool and family swimming pool, a fitness centre, tennis courts, and the Sense spa with six signature therapy rooms and locally inspired treatments.

Situated on a cliff overlooking the Caribbean Sea, the resort’s social nexus will be lounge bar inspired by West Indian flavours, colours and culture. Plans for the bar include artisanal Caribbean cocktails and small plates accompanied by live reggae and ska music.

The resort will also feature a pool grill and beach bar, as well as an on-site organic farm, which will provide fresh ingredients for seasonal fare year-around. As well as a hotel, Rosewood Half Moon Bay Antigua will offer an exclusive residential component comprised of branded oceanfront and oceanview villas, and 13 estate homes.

Right next to the crescent of white sand at Half Moon Bay and a 27-acre national park, Rosewood Half Moon Bay Antigua has a beautiful natural location. As part of the resort experience, guests will be able to enjoy biking and walking trails, beach activities, and interactive guided experiences, and there will be a curated selection of immersive activities and unique excursions to showcase the best of the island.

Rosewood Hotel Group’s chief executive officer Sonia Cheng said:

“With its secluded location and breathtaking beach, Half Moon Bay is one of the world’s most stunning hidden gems, and a natural destination for Rosewood’s affluential explorers. We look forward to integrating Rosewood’s Sense of Place philosophy into Antigua’s incredible natural environment to create unforgettable experiences for our guests.”

This will not be the first time Half Moon Bay has hosted a holiday resort – the former Half Moon Bay Hotel was established in the 1950s, and for decades was a sought-after destination and resort playground for the international jet set. But the resort closed in 1995 due to hurricane damage, and its plot has remained deserted until now.

Replay Destinations’ chief executive Michael Coyle commented:

“We are honoured to be the stewards responsible for reimagining this legendary property that is so loved by the people of Antigua and for almost 50 years attracted travellers from around the world.

“By partnering with Rosewood Hotels, who not only have a storied history in Antigua, they also bring to Half Moon Bay a philosophy and approach for their guests that focuses on the distinct culture, history and geography of each locale. Together, we believe that what we will create at Half Moon Bay, Antigua will be the finest resort in the Caribbean and one of the finest in the world.”

Rosewood Half Moon Bay will join a regional network of properties in the region, including Rosewood Baha Mar, slated to open in Spring 2018, Rosewood Bermuda which will undergo a complete renovation to be unveiled in May 2018, and Rosewood Little Dix Bay, slated to reopen at a later date.
