Constance Aiyana boutique beach resort debuts in Zanzibar

A new luxury eco-resort boasting a set of boutique beachfront villas has opened in the tropical beach, diving and fishing destination of Pemba Island in Tanzania’s Zanzibar archipelago. The Constance Aiyana, managed by Constance Hotels and Resorts, debuted its thirty locally-crafted villas and extensive beachside facilities on New Year’s Day 2018.

Fronted by the island’s famous white palm-lined beaches and clear turquoise seas, the boutique hotel has been carefully developed over eight years, working very closely with the local community. Villas are designed in an indigenous style with thatched roofs and limestone walls, while furniture is fashioned from natural materials such as coconut brooms and rattan, and furnishings are all linen and cotton.

As part of the resort, guests have access to a swimming pool, full-service luxury spa, beachside cabanas and a gourmet restaurant with both indoor and al fresco tables. Low-key entertainment includes fires on the beach with local music, singing and dance in the evenings.

The resort is situated on the northernmost edge of Pemba Island, surrounded by a wide stretch of white coralline beach, sand bars and scenic islets. Offshore, untouched coral reefs make the area one of the very top dive sites in the world.

The holiday resort is also close to the Ngezi Rainforest, which is the last remaining tract of indigenous forest that used to cover most of Pemba Island. Ngezi is home to wonderful wildlife including the island’s endemic Pemba Flying Fox and a troop of vervet monkeys.

Pemba is accessible from Dar es Salaam – a thirty-minute light aircraft flight from Zanzibar. Constance Hotels & Resorts offers the hotel to the UK market as a standalone destination and as an add-on to a safari in nearby Tanzania. Stays will be on a full-board basis.

The hotel opens under the direction of Barbara Elkaz who was previously Resident Manager at Constance Halaveli in the Maldives. She commented:

“In a world of permanent connectivity, there comes a time when you need to pause, to breathe and reconnect with your senses. If you are in search of such an abode, soul-stirring Constance Aiyana is your sanctuary.”

Constance Aiyana Pemba Zanzibar is the eighth hotel in the Constance Hotels and Resorts collection. The hotelier has owned and operated luxury hotels in the Indian Ocean region for nearly 20 years.
