British Airways to launch direct flights to Seychelles

British Airways and the Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) have entered a partnership that will see the launch of new direct flights to the Seychelles from next spring. The two-year agreement will see the new service provide non-stop flights to the nation from London Heathrow Airport in the UK.

The partnership will promote the Seychelles as an idyllic tourist destination, and it will support British Airways’ direct flights to the country. Launching in March, 2018, passengers will be able to choose from twice-weekly services.

“The British Airways’ return on the destination will be a big boost for our already buoyant UK and Ireland market and given it will fly out of London Heathrow it will provide further boost to our US market and other European markets. Joining BA’s already strong marketing team will definitely help strengthen our presence on these markets.”

Commented Mrs. Sherin Francis, the Chief Executive of the Seychelles Tourism Board.

The new flights to the Seychelle will commence on 24th March, 2018, and it will mark the airline’s re-entry into the country after a 10-year break. The flights will be operated on the new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, and they will depart from London on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and will return on Thursdays and Sundays.

The two companies will world close to promote the Seychelles as a tourist destination through various marketing campaigns and promotional activities. These include social media promotions, FAM trips, and visual campaigns.

Statistics reveal that Europe has been the Seychelles’ main tourism market for years. The number of visitors from the UK reached 19,330 up to 5th November this year. This is an increase of 19 per cent compared to the same period in 2016, and the UK is currently the fifth leading tourism market for the Seychelles.

The Seychelles is an island nation located in the Indian Ocean, approximately 900 miles east of mainland Africa. The country spans an archipelago of 115 beautiful islands which feature verdant green mountains, huge granite boulders, pristine white sand palm-fringed beaches, crystal clear azure ocean waters, and a tropical climate.

Of the 115 islands, just three are inhabited: Mahe, Praslin, and La Digue. The majority of residents live on Mahe, the largest of the three islands. Key tourist attractions in the Seychelles include the Seychelles National Botanical Gardens on Mount Fleuri with the Aldabran giant tortoises; the capital city of Victoria with charming streets and brightly painted homes; Aldabra Atoll, a collections of four coral islands, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site; North East Point Beach which is great for surfing; and Morne Blanc, the highest peak in the country.
