Veranda Resorts brings a bright dose of Mauritian sunshine to The Holiday Place
Updating everyone on the latest and newest about Veranda Resorts' collection of stunning retreats in beautiful Mauritius, Amy Wojdygowski, Sales Manager at Veranda Leisure and Hospitality, came down to The Holiday Place last Monday and brought over a ray of Mauritian sunshine to warm us all up. Keep reading to find out what we learnt about their five Mauritian properties.
The Holiday Place was thrilled to welcome Veranda Resorts to our London office yesterday and hear the latest on their collection of beautiful beachfront resorts in the idyllic island of Mauritius. Coming to tell us all about them was Amy Wojdygowski, Sales Manager at Veranda Leisure and Hospitality (VLH).
During her visit, we were briefed on all four Veranda resorts in Mauritius plus an additional one also managed by the Veranda group, the Tamarin Hotel, a completely different retreat with an entirely different concept but also located in Mauritius. Amy kindly gave us an overview of all properties, touching down on some important details and drawing focus to some key points, facilities and services that made each property unique.
We'll start off with the most recently renovated of all, the Veranda Pointe aux Biches Hotel, where it's all about barefoot luxury and sublime experiences. Upon entering you're kindly asked to remove your shoes and fully immerse in the hotel's "barefoot bliss" concept, where it's all about embracing the surrounding natural beauty, just as nature intended but with the help of some refined, sophisticated amenities. As part of your welcome ritual your feet are rinsed in cool water and honeymoon couples are gifted a bracelet of two entwined hearts at dinner. Parents are treated to a special show featuring their own children during cocktail hour whilst they're also offered cocktail lessons (complete with certificate and recipe sheet to take home).
The style here is decidedly casual and the tone informal and relaxed, to make for truly escapist getaways. The hotel reopened in 2015 after some extensive renovation that made emphasis on the barefoot aspect of its layout and facilities. This boutique gem offers guests a total of 115 guest rooms, including 44 interconnecting family rooms and a separate adults-only wing with 30 Privilege rooms. Kids are well catered for with their dedicated Timomo Kids Club while couples seeking privacy and seclusion enjoy exclusive use of one of the hotel's two pools and exclusive access to one of the two onsite restaurants and one of the two bars overlooking the lagoon. Rounding up the facilities, the hotel also offers complimentary Wi-Fi throughout and has a Seven Colours Wellness Lounge with spa cabins on the beach, overlooking the lagoon.
Next, we have, the also family-friendly Veranda Grand Baie, where the fun's at. This is one fabulous hotel that's all about the joy, the fun, the entertainment and the fulfilment of exciting pursuits. Here, guests are welcomed to the beat of traditional drums and musicians in national dress. A total of 94 rooms with creole-style decor and design, also including interconnecting options for families, offer guests modern and comfortable resting space.
The Veranda Grand Baie offers guests excellent onsite dining options at two restaurants plus one bar overlooking the sea. While a Timomo and Friends Kids Club keeps little ones entertained, adults can choose from one of the several treatments offered at the onsite Seven Colours Wellness Lounge and take their prick from a great variety of complimentary water sports and land sports. Guests of all ages can also make the most of the free Wi-Fi, and most importantly, the excellent location at the heart on Grand Baie, in close proximity to a wide variety of bars, shops and nightlife. They also get free access to the facilities of sister resorts at Veranda Palmar Beach, Veranda Paul and Virginie and Veranda Pointe Aux Biches. As added extras, cooking classes are offered to guests, following a certificate award plus a chef's hat while children are given lessons in Sega dancing while dressed in traditional costumes. Afterwards a photo souvenir is gifted to each child and parents can also enjoy Monday "Tire Tracas" sessions where they are invited to get rid of their worries and concerns by throwing them in a fire pit, followed by Sega singing and dancing.
The smallest and quaintest of all Veranda hotels, but also the only one of these to be an all-inclusive, the Veranda Palmar Beach offers cosy accommodation options across its collection of 77 rooms, all beautifully appointed with nature as their main design inspiration. As part of its all-inclusive programme guests can partake in a variety of activities, complimentary land and water sports as well as free Wi-Fi in public spaces, complimentary poolside service with a selection of drinks and snacks served to guests around the pool area and delicious, fully-inclusive meals to be enjoyed at its two beach restaurants and two bars.
Kids have their dedicated space at the Timomo and Friends' club while guests can indulge in a relaxing, soothing spa session or two at Veranda's signature Seven Colours Wellness Lounge and sauna, with the latter being completely free of charge for guests. As unique additional extras, guests at Palmar Beach also get a weekly lesson in the "Art of Relaxation" at the onsite spa, cooking lessons with a certificate at the end plus a selection of recipes to take home, weekly Zumba lessons and a souvenir photo in a handmade frame as a parting gift. Offering outstanding value and amazing service, it's no wonder the Veranda Palmar Beach was the recipient of TripAdvisor Traveler's Choice Awards 2016, ranking second in the category of "Top 10 Best Bargain – Mauritius" 2016.
Finally, we have the only one of Veranda properties to be designed for adults only, the Veranda Paul and Virginie Hotel and Spa, a lovers' hideaway exclusively for two. Perfectly wedged between two sleepy fishing villages (with a free twice weekly shuttle to Grand Baie), the secluded, quiet and serene location is only the beginning.
Here guests enjoy exceptional, romantic accommodation at 81 exquisitely appointed rooms, all boasting amazing sea views. There's also two swimming pools to choose from, two restaurants and two bars. As an exclusive extra, courtesy of the hotel, couples also get romantic pre-dinner drinks on the beach. And for those booking Privilege Rooms, there's the added benefit of a complimentary full-day catamaran cruise including open bar and lunch, plus a la carte dinners on a daily basis at the St Geran Restaurant. In addition all guests have free access to all facilities and main areas of sister properties: Veranda Palmar Beach, Veranda Pointe Aux Biches and Veranda Grand Baie.
Last, but certainly not least, there's the Tamarin Hotel, a surfers' hideaway designed for those who want to indulge in this amazing water sport. Everyone is welcome, from couples to solo adventurers and families of all ages. Facing the legendary waves of Santosha, this was one of Mauritius' first hotels to be built, and remains one of the most unique. Many sports and active pursuits are on offer for the most adventurous spirits, as are relaxation options at the pool, library and spa. Whether you want to join in the surfing action or be a beach spectator from the comfort of a sunlounger, the Tamarin doesn't disappoint. Surf's up!
