Antigua and Barbuda has been named as the "Caribbean's Most Romantic Destination" at the 2016 World Travel Awards Caribbean and North American Gala Ceremony. Antigua and Barbuda named "Caribbean's Most Romantic Destination" again

The 2016 World Travel Awards’ Caribbean and North American Gala Ceremony took place last month highlighting the region’s leading hospitality and travel companies. Antigua and Barbuda was awarded the title of the "Caribbean’s Most Romantic Destination" for the second year in a row.

The twin-island nation strengthened its position as one of the best destinations in the world for honeymoons and weddings, and it was also nominated in other categories at the annual regional World Travel Awards ceremony. These included the "Caribbean’s Leading Airport Lounge", "Caribbean’s Leading Adventure Tourist Attraction", "Caribbean’s Leading Beach Destination", "Caribbean’s Leading Destination", "Caribbean’s Leading Honeymoon Destination", and "Caribbean’s Leading Tourist Board."

Kim Jack Riley, the Director of Tourism for the USA of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, stated:

“Antigua and Barbuda is known throughout the world as being one of the world’s most romantic destinations; offering miles of beautiful beaches and cerulean water; privacy and intimacy for visitors, enhancing the romantic feel and award-winning spas, restaurants and water and land activities, we truly believe what sets visitors’ experience apart is the genuine warmth and hospitality of the people of Antigua and Barbuda.”

The ceremony took place at Sandals Ochi Beach Resort in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, and is one of the last regional ceremonies in the World Travel Awards Grand Tour which will end at the Grand Final Ceremony later this year. The World Travel Awards were established in 1993 to recognise the world’s best hotels and resort, spa resorts, popular tourist attractions, successful travel and tour companies, and many top travel and hospitality companies.

Antigua and Barbuda is a country that sits between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. It is famous for its wide selection of unspoilt, palm-lined white sand beaches; one for every day of the year.

Barbuda is the smaller of the two islands, located north of Antigua. It is less built-up and has a small selection of luxury beachfront hotels and resorts. Holidaymakers flock to the island to enjoy bird watching at the Frigate Bird Sanctuary in the Codrington Lagoon. Antigua is the larger, main isle, and it is a hotspot for destination for weddings, honeymoons and family holidays. Its natural scenery is made up of powder-soft white sand palm-fringed beaches, warm sapphire ocean waters, and lush forests and idyllic landscapes.
