Rebel Chef Terry French in Tobago

We're delighted to announce that world renowned chef, Terry French, is currently cooking up a storm in Tobago. His travels take him to far flung corners of the globe, and he's lucky enough to be staying at the boutique Bacolet Beach Club on the southern tip of the island. With its secluded beach, turquoise waters and restaurants bursting with soul it's the perfect location for this "Rebel Chef".

Chef Terry French, known as the "Rebel Chef," can cook anything, anytime, anywhere, and showed the world in 2012 as winner of Food Network's World Extreme Chef.

His culinary work takes him all over the world, where he constantly strives to find the most incredible ingredients to mix up the most daring of dishes. He is currently enjoying a slice of paradise at Bacolet Beach Club whilst cooking and filming for the Tobago Fishing Tournament.

Terry has spent his whole career in the hospitality industry, traversing the globe several times over. He’s always foraging, hunting and fishing, with constant trips to local farms to gather fresh ingredients. His love of food began from an early age with his mother and grandmother teaching him the basics such as how to cut potatoes properly and picking green beans together.

It didn’t occur to him to become a professional chef until after his career in the Navy, where he met Richard Chen (now executive chef at the Wynn, Las Vegas), who asked him for some help while he had lost an employee. He evidently hasn’t looked back since!

Because he has been all over the world and studied the culture in each destination, he has a unique skill that he prides himself on – just give him a list of ingredients and he’ll take you anywhere you want to go, on a culinary journey to the destination of your choice.

He travels the globe to learn from everyone he meets and loves to share his knowledge and passion for cooking with others. One of the best things he can do, he says, is teach people how to cook their favourite dish so they can do it when he’s not there!

His time in Tobago will be spent cooking up a storm in Cafe Havana which offers a medley of Cuban-Asian-Creole creations to tantalise the tastebuds. The restaurant is part of Bacolet Beach Club, an exclusive boutique hotel that prides itself on its friendly nature and stunning setting. Designed by former fashion model Gloria Jones-Knapp, the hotel is beautifully styled making for an idyllic getaway.
