Sheraton Macao awarded Grand premium-tier status

The Sheraton Macao Hotel Cotai Central will now be called the Sheraton Grand Macao Hotel Cotai Central, after it earned premium-tier 'Grand' status. The property has 3,896 guest rooms and suites, and joins four other Sheraton grand hotels in China, and just 17 other Sheraton Grand properties around the world.

Sheraton Macao awarded Grand premium-tier status

Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide Inc. has announced that its Sheraton hotel in Macau has earned premium-tier status and has been upgraded to Grand Macao Hotel Cotai Central.

The luxury hotel joins just 17 Sheraton grand properties across the world, and four other Shertaton Grand hotels in China: Sheraton Grand Beijing Dongcheng Hotel, Sheraton Grand Hangzhou Wetland Park Resort, Sheraton Grand Xishuangbanna Hotel and Sheraton Grand Hangzhou Binjiang Hotel.

With 3,896 guest rooms and suites, the luxury hotel became the largest Starwood hotel in the world when it opened to guests in 2012. Janet McNab, the Managing Director of Sheraton and St Regis hotels in Macau, explained:

"We are very pleased to be elevated to 'Grand' status. This recognition by Sheraton Hotels and Resorts inspires us to continue delivering outstanding service and memorable experiences to each and every one of our guests."

Starwood launched the premium-tier sub-brand last year as part of the "Sheraton 2020" policy, which aims to improve and expand the existing portfolio. The hotel must meet a series of minimum standards that have assessed staff and guest satisfaction, and the quality of the hotel's facilities and services.

Starwood Hotels and Resorts is planning to launch another 100 Sheraton Grand hotels across the world by early 2017.

Sheraton Grand Macao Hotel Cotai Central is offering special low room rates to celebrate the designation. Bookings made from now until the end of January can enjoy rates from HKD833 for stays until 31st May, 2016.

Macau is a small peninsula on mainland China that is separated from Hong Kong by the Pearl River Delta. Formerly a Portuguese overseas territory until 1999, Macau is known as the "Las Vegas of Asia" due to the Cotai Strip, its huge stretch of casinos and lavish malls, and Macau generates more revenue than Las Vegas.

Starwood Hotels and Resorts owns and operates nearly 1,000 properties across North America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, and Latin America. Its brands include Sheraton, Westin, W Hotels, the Luxury Collection, Four Points by Sheraton, St. Regis, Le Meridian, Aloft, Element by Westin.
