Eagerly anticipated Shangri-La Doha opens its doors

After being pushed back since 2013, the eagerly anticipated Shangri-La Doha five star hotel opened its doors to guests on 21st December. With a host of luxury amenities and various facets of the local heritage woven throughout all aspects of this luxury hotel, it is expected to be a favourite among holidaymakers looking to enjoy a little something extra on their Doha holidays.

After a near two year delay due to legal disputes, the 50 storey Shangri-La Doha luxury five star hotel began accepting reservations on the 21 December 2015.

Guests will have the choice of 272 rooms and suites at the eagerly anticipated hotel, with the rooms ranging in size from 46 to 288 square meters. In addition to the plush rooms the Shangri-La Doha also offers the option of 42 fully serviced apartments - a new, unique concept for Doha.

Along with the plush bedrooms, the luxury hotel features, seven restaurants and bars including a Horizon Club on the 42nd floor which offers guests the perfect vantage point from which they can admire Doha thanks to its panoramic view. Other luxury features at the Shangri-La Doha, that have come to be synonymous with the Shangri-La brand, include an outdoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room as well as the Shangri-La spa, CHI, The Spa.

At the launch of the Shangri La Doha, H.E. Sheikh Mohamed Bin Faisal Al Thani, vice chairman of ARTIC, the developers responsible for the project, stated that:

"The much-anticipated opening of Shangri-La Hotel, Doha represents another significant milestone for ARTIC and for Doha's hotel industry. The Shangri-La brand is widely recognized in the hospitality sector as a benchmark for quality and we are delighted to be bringing Shangri-La's levels of luxury and service to Doha."

Not so long ago many wondered if the hotel would ever be completed with a series of issues causing the launch to pushed back from early 2013 to December 2015. Shangri-La's general manager Coen Masselink touched briefly on the disputes but stressed the long term view stating:

"We don't want to dwell on the past, but it had to do with quality issues. Both Sheikh Faisal and Shangri-La wanted something very special and then here and there, during the crisis time, there was a delay, new standards came in, certain structural elements had to be replaced, and things like that, but we just (kept) looking forward."

Holidaymakers looking to pamper themselves during their holidays in Doha will no doubt be flocking to this hotel that many are praising for its unique ability to mix local heritage with modern luxury comforts.
