International tourist arrivals to Thailand rise by 24.75 per cent

Thailand has recorded 24,364,667 international visitors during the first ten months of 2016.

According to data released by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, visitor arrivals between January and October, 2016 increased by 24.75 per cent, compared to the 19,531,084 visitors during the same period last year.

Wannasiri Morakul, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, said that tourist arrivals in Thailand by the end of 2015 are expected to surpass 28 million.

"China, Malaysia and Japan were major source markets during the period...another 5.2 million visits are expected over the remaining two months of the year, which will drive Thailand's tourism to around 29.5 million visits exceeding the year-end target."

Explained Wannasiri, he also commented that the increased numbers were helped by the Thai government's efforts to encourage tourists through various international campaigns, including the campaign "2015 Discover Thainess", which highlighted the country's culture and lifestyle.

The campaign also promoted the 12 hidden gem destinations: Lampang, Nan, Phetchaburi, Loei, Buri Ram, Ratchaburi, Samut Songkhram, Chanthaburi, Trat, Chumphon, Trang and Nakhon Si Thammarat.

Next year, the "don't miss" destinations in Thailand will include Lamphun, Phrae, Phitsanulok, Chaiyaphum, Surin, Suphanburi, Nakhon Pathom, Sa Kaeo, Rayong, Ranong, Satun and Phattalung.

Thailand is one of the world's most popular tourist destinations thanks to its diverse tourism offerings that range from ancient temples, magnificent beaches and islands, thriving rainforests, bustling vibrant cities, and laidback locals and lifestyle.

The country offers hundreds of diving sites and marine parks boasting colourful coral and an array of marine species spread across over 3,000 km of picturesque coastline.

Some of the nation's most popular destination include Bangkok, the capital with its Emerald Buddha temple, vibrant nightlife, and floating markets on canals; Phuket, an island with rainforests and mountains, and an array of upscale beachfront hotels and resorts; Ko Phi, a small archipelago in Southern Thailand with pristine beaches and turquoise waters; and Koh Phangan, which is famous for its annual Full Moon Party.
