Bahamas announces series of spring cultural events and openings

The Bahamas is a popular tourist destination in the Caribbean with a collection of stunning tropical islands and this spring, there will be plenty of events to entertain travellers from all over the world. The IAAF World Relays, the highly-anticipated opening of Baha Mar mega-resort, and the Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival are just some of the spring events on offer.

With its collection of idyllic tropical islands, the Bahamas is a popular tourist destination for holidaymakers from all over the globe and this spring, the island nation will host a series of events ranging from sports to music.

Tourists visiting the Bahamas in May can enjoy the IAAF World Relays, the anticipated opening of the Baha Mar mega-resort, and the Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival.

IAAF World Relays

This sports event takes place in Nassau on 2nd and 3rd May, 2015 and it will be the second time the Bahamas hosts the athletics competition.

The events hosts more than 1,000 athletes and coaches from 50 counties across the world and it also acts as a qualifier for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. Visitors will be able to watch elite sprint and middle distance athletes from all over the world battle it out.

Baha Mar Resort

Located on the picturesque New Providence Island in the Bahamas, this mega resort will provide luxury holidays for sophisticated travellers when it opens this spring.

The resort complex is set to be the largest single-phase resort in the history of the Caribbean and it will feature a collection of luxury beachfront hotels including brands such as Rosewood Hotels and Resorts, Morgans Hotel Group, Hyatt Hotels and Resorts, and a world-class Casino Hotel that will offer 2,250 rooms.

Costing $3.5 billion, the luxury resort development will feature a 50,000 square-foot retail village with upscale shops and local Bahamian arts and crafts, restaurants, and entertainment venues; a 20-acre Eco Water Park with pool experience, and three luxury spas, including the largest spa in the Caribbean; an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Course; the largest convention centre in the Bahamas with 200,000 square-feet of space that will be used both for business and as an entertainment and sports arena; and a 100,000 square-foot casino which will be the largest gaming complex in the Caribbean.

Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival

The Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival will take place on Nassau from 7th to 9th May, 2015 and 17th to 18th April on Grand Bahama Island. Holidaymakers can join in with the dancing, music and excitement as locals and visitors celebrate Bahamian culture.

The Bahamas is an island nation archipelago situated in the Atlantic Ocean, north of Cuba. The country boasts a collection of idyllic islands, such as Bimini, Berry Islands, New Providence, Crooked Island Mayaguana, Acklins, The Berry Islands, Nassau, The Exumas, Grand Bahama Island, and Harbour Island.
