The new self-service system allows US and Canadian passport holders to process part of the US Customs and Border Patrol inspection electronically.

Bahamas airport launches new automated passport control system

Passengers departing from Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) in the Bahamas will now be able to enjoy a faster process when heading back to the United States and Canada.

The new Automated Passport Control (APC) system enables American and Canadian passport holders who are heading out of the Bahamas back to the U.S to complete part of the US Customs and Border Patrol inspection electronically using self-service kiosks and making the process up to four times faster.

Vernice Walkine, the President of the Nassau Airport Development Company, commented:

"APC will greatly improve our ability to process passengers through the airport. The demand for the destination continues to grow and with more than 3.2 million passengers travelling through LPIA on an annual basis, we want to ensure that their experience at our airport is a positive one.

"Making the investment in 20 APC kiosks just makes sense from a passenger management perspective as the move will drastically reduce wait times in an area impacting more than 80 per cent of our total airport traffic."

Miss Walkine also explained:

"The technology will benefit the destination for years to come."

The Caribbean facility is also open to US Lawful Permanent Residents and Electronic System for Travel Authorisation approved passport holders which includes travellers from 38 countries who do not require U.S entry visas for stays in the Bahamas for less than 90 days.
