The annual Conde Nast Traveler Readers Choice Awards have ranked Cape Town in fourth place in the list of Top Cities in the World 2014.

Cape Town in South Africa moved up seven places from last year’s eleventh spot and it was also rated as the eighth friendliest city. Maria Shollenbarger, editor-at-large of Conde Nast Traveler, explained;

"Cape Town is the best city in the world for blending urban culture with the great outdoors: They're literally a five-minute drive from each other. There's an exploding food scene, with vegetables, wine, and cheese coming from the gorgeous Cape Winelands."

Several of the city’s luxury hotels were also awarded in the list of Best Hotels in Africa with the One & Only, Cape Town scooping the top spot.

Bushmanskloof in the Cederberg was listed in sixth place in Africa's Top 20 Best Safari Lodges and Camps, fourth place on the list of Best Resorts in South Africa, and as number 41 on the Top 100 Hotels in the World list.

Londolozi, Sabi Sands, a luxury South African lodge, was rated as the Number 1 Hotel and Resort in the World.

Enver Duminy, the CEO of Cape Town Tourism added;

"We are so proud of all the players who have come together to earn us such great global recognition. Cape Town continues to strive to delight and intrigue our visitors. We would like to extend hearty congratulations to all our members who have featured so prominently in the results."

Cape Town is one of South Africa’s most popular tourist destinations thanks to its sunny climate and stunning natural scenery including sandy beaches and the famous Table Mountain where visitors can marvel at the stunning open natural surroundings and the breathtaking panoramic views of the city and ocean below. The city is in close proximity to several national parks where holidaymakers can go on an African safari and catch sighting of magnificent animals.

The vibrant city is also home to the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa on the Victoria and Albert Waterfront. The building features 80 exhibition galleries, an education centre for children, an amphitheatre on the plaza outside for outdoor events and live performances, restaurants, gift shops, and an outdoor roof garden with stunning panoramic views of Cape Town and Table Mountain.
