Dubai’s Burj al Arab hotel has unveiled its newly-refurbished aquarium which features modern underwater lighting, artificial coral reefs and new tropical species of fish.

Both tourists enjoying Dubai holidays at the extravagantly luxurious property and local residents can visit the marine attraction which is located within one of the world’s most luxurious hotels.

“We take extreme pride in nurturing our fish and providing it with as natural an environment as possible. Therefore we designed the best possible undersea ‘home away from home’ for our new and existing species,” explained Warren Baverstock, the Operations Manager of Burj Al Arab’s Aquarium. “No live coral was used in the tank and the habitat was created to imitate natural coral reefs.”

While the aquarium was undergoing its refurbishments, the fish were looked after by resident marine biologists in the hotel’s very own aquatic quarantine facilities for three months.

Created by Pangea Rocks and the hotel’s team, the aquarium is home to more than 4,000 exotic and colourful fish including Clown Fish, Yellow and Blue Tang, and Zebra and Bamboo sharks.

The Dubai hotel has three aquariums in total; two on both sides of the hotel lobby and one is located inside the award-winning seafood restaurant, Al Mahara.

The Burj Al Arab is Dubai’s renowned seven-star hotel that is situated on an artificial island 280 metres from the famous Jumeirah beach. The property stands out from other Dubai hotels with its iconic structure which resembles the sail of an Arabian dhow and soars 321 metres into the sky.

Managed by the Jumeirah Group, the hotel has 202 spacious guest suites scattered over 28 double-storey floors. During holidays to Dubai, tourists can savour exquisite cuisine at a collection of gourmet restaurants including the Al Mahara, Bab Al Yam, and Al Muntaha; enjoy access to the fun-packed Wild Wadi Water Park; relax on the Majlis Al Bahar private beach; indulge at the lavish Assawan Spa and Health Club; and shop at the Dubai Mall.

The hotel suites boast state-of-the-art technology where guests who are enjoying luxury holidays in Dubai can change the lighting, curtains and air conditioning with the touch of a button; 42-inch plasma screen TVs with DVD and cable channels; a separate living area and dining area with dining table; a walk-in shower and Jacuzzi bath with a full range of men and ladies Hermes products; dedicated 24-hour butler service; and an office area with laptop, internet access, private fax, printer and copier machine.
