Oman will receive a new boutique property after the Asian hotel group, Alila Hotels & Resorts, announced that it will be expanding its portfolio with the launch of its first Oman property in the Jabal al Akhdhar region next year.

The new Alila Jabal Akhdhar will open to tourists taking Oman holidays in late 2013 and the property will be situated within stunning natural surroundings, 2,000 metres above sea level and two hours from Oman’s capital, Muscat.

The boutique Oman hotel overlooks a gorge offering beautiful views of the Hajar Mountains and its location is perfect for tourists seeking adventure, nature and a tranquil retreat away from the soaring desert temperature and bustling cities during their holidays to Oman.

The President of Alila Hotels & Resorts, Mark Edleson, stated: “The Jabal Akhdhar region is the perfect location for our first foray into the Middle East. Its combination of interesting natural eco-systems, physical beauty and intriguing history and culture perfectly fit within our development philosophy.”

The Oman hotel’s facilities will include a cliff-side restaurant, a swimming pool, luxury spa, modern fitness centre and meeting and events space, as well as elegant accommodation including 78 rooms, six suites and two royal villas.

Omran, the government owned tourism investment, development and management company, is developing the hotel with the help of design company P49 and architectural consultancy W S Atkins.

Oman has become a popular tourist destination and the country offers a wide range of luxury hotels, tourist attractions, sights and activities for holidaymakers of all ages.

Muscat is a popular destination for tourists, and during holidays in Oman, holidaymakers can stroll for miles along the city’s beaches and coastline or explore the historic sites and attractions such as the Al Jalali Fort and Al Mirani forts, Qasr Al Alam Royal Palace, Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Qurum National Park and the Bait az-Zubair Museum.

Despite the thousands of miles of dry golden sand deserts and dunes, Oman is a fantastic destination for scuba diving and snorkelling activities. The shores off the coast of Oman’s capital, Muscat, are teeming with colourful corals and thousands of marine species including seahorses, Oman clownfish, loggerhead turtles, dolphins, sharks and humpback whales.
