The Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism is making sure that travellers taking Dominican Republic holidays this winter are up to date on the health situation concerning cholera whilst urging visitors that the country is open to business as normal.

Is business as usual for Dominican Republic holiday industry

Travellers are being urged to continue with their Dominican Republic holidays as normal by the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism after recent outbreaks of cholera in Haiti.

The Dominican Republic Health Minister, Bautista Rojas Gomez, has reported that the Dominican Republic government has a proactive disease prevention system in place and is in the process of educating the public to prevent long-term cholera outbreaks in the country.

The government has launched a sweeping National Program of Education and Prevention of Cholera which is set to reach over one million families and will involve the efforts of 100,000 volunteers along with surveillance, monitoring and health programs.

Rojas Gomez said: "This educational campaign has awakened an unprecedented interest in the Dominican Republic, to such a degree that from the most humble citizens to the President of the Republic, they will all be taking part in all the activities prepared for this purpose."

Attractions, resorts, airports, beaches, seaports, and marinas in the countries popular tourism regions are all open to visitors as normal including Punta Cana, Santo Domingo, La Romana, Samana and Puerto Plata hotels, resorts and beaches.

Travellers are being encouraged to continue to book their Dominican Republic holidays and follow basic food safety recommendations once they are in the Caribbean country.

With UK temperatures set to plummet again this week, it could be the perfect time to book sunny Puerto Plata holidays in time for the holiday and sunshine season.
