A kaleidoscope of colours established by a vibrant culture and rich heritage, Thailand is a unique destination full of surprises. Enjoy a taste of what this country has to offer away from the tropical beach destinations and manic streets of Bangkok by delving into the heart of the country beginning at the medieval capital of Ayutthaya. The country’s capital for almost 4 centuries it offers enchanting ruins to wander through with a reputation as the base from which Thai culture flourished. Explore other less travelled areas such as the charming town of Uthai Thani and Nakon Pathom as well as the infamous Hell Fire Pass and the ‘Bridge over the River Kwai’ along the way.

Day 1: Depart Bangkok for Uthai Thani, via Ayutthaya
Beginning with an early start at approximately 07:30, you will depart the bustling atmosphere of Bangkok and head for Ayutthaya via the Bang Pa In. The former Royal Summer Residence of King Rama V., Bang Pa In is a stunning residence along the bank of the Chao Phraya River originally built in the 17th century that you can enjoy exploring.
Carry on to the city of Autthaya, Thailand’s capital from the 14th century through to the 18th century, where traditional Thai heritage truly flourished. Here you can explore stunning sites including the ruins of Wat Srisanpetch, Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon and the beautiful temples at Wat Chai Watthanram before enjoying lunch at a local restaurant.
After lunch, it’s time to continue on to the rural town of Uthai Thani. Set on the banks of the Sakaekrang River, the tranquil town offers an insight into local life that few tourists see. The final site of the day is the stunning Wat Chantaram (Wat Thasung), a temple offering its impressive Crystal Hall and Golden Grand Shrine.
After checking into your hotel, you can spend the rest of the day at your own leisure.

Overnight in Uthai Thani

Day 2: Explore the ‘Bridge over the River Kwai’ and Hell Fire Pass
After breakfast it is time to leave the sleepy little town and head onwards for Kanchanaburi via Suphanburi.
After lunch at a local restaurant in Kanchanaburi near the infamous ‘Bridge over the River Kwai’, it’s time to carry onto the Hell Fire Pass and the attached Memorial Museum. Offering you a look into a part of Thailand’s darker history, the joint Australian-Thai museum contains pictures, hand tools, audio-visual displays and interactive exhibits exploring how Allied Prisoners of War were forced to build the railway. You can also take a scenic walking trail through the infamous Hell Fire Pass where the prisoners were forced to work.
Your day ends with a short boat ride over to your resort for the night with the rest of the day at leisure.

Overnight in Kanchanaburi

Day 3: Take a ride along the Death Railway and onto Nakon Pathom
Enjoy a morning of leisure after breakfast until you depart for the train station at Wang Po. After a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, you can enjoy a unique train experience along the Death Railway to Tha Kilen station where you can learn more about the area’s history at the Thai Burmese Railway Center.
Continue on with a drive to Nakon Pathom where you’ll find the awe-inspiring Phra Pathom Chedi, said to be the tallest pagoda in Southeast Asian as well as an important structure signifying the introduction of Buddhism into the country.
The day finishes at the charming Sampran Riverside Hotel where the rest of the evening is at leisure.

Overnight in Nakon Pathom

Day 4: Head back to Bangkok
Following an early breakfast, you can explore the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market with a short boat ride into the centre of the market. After lunch back at the hotel you can then go on to learn about the hotel’s unique Thai village and its sustainability programme involving the local people before returning back to Bangkok in the evening.
