Day 1: Arrive in Yogyakarta
After arriving in Yogyakarta airport, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel in the city with the rest of the day at leisure to discover the city.
Yogyakarta is a must for those on the island of Java. Whilst Jakarta is the financial capital and powerhouse of the country, Yogyakarta offers the cultural soul to the island of Java with a warm greeting waiting for travellers from the local people. Its rich heritage and traditions reach back for century’s and is still somewhat governed by the traditional Sultanate system, making it feel like modern times have not quite reached the whole of this laid-back city.

Day 2: Discovering Yogyakarta
Today you begin your tour of the city with a visit to the Sultan’s Palace, known as the Kraton. This ornate set of buildings, where the sultan still resides, was originally built in 1755 and represents the Javanese Cosmos with every detail of the buildings offering a mystical meaning. Take time to explore the stunning details in areas such as the ornate reception hall and open air pavilions open to the public.
Carry on the tour to the Sultan’s Taman Sari (Water Castle), set within the grounds of the Kraton. This ornate pleasure park was designed for the first Sultanate of Yogyakarta and his entourage where it was said he would sit in the tower overlooking the central bathing complex watching the antics below.
The morning tour ends in the city district of Kota Gede, famed for its intricate silver work as well as a charming and historic neighbourhood filled with idyllic backstreets to explore.

After lunch it is time to head out of the city to the iconic temple complex of Borobudur. The UNESCO World heritage Site is one of South East Asia’s most impressive and the largest single Buddhist monument in the world, consisting of six square terraces topped by three circular ones. The site is truly magical with at least 2,500 relief panels and more than 500 Buddha statues making it the perfect place to end your day of exploring Java’s cultural centre.

Day 3: Prambanan Temple Tour
This morning you can visit another of the areas stunning archaeological sites with a tour of the 9th century Hindu temple compound of Prambanan. The intricate collection of temples is dedicated to the Trimurti where Brahman is the Creator, Vishnu is the Preserver and Shiva is the Destroyer and is a remarkable display of Hinduism’s influence in the area.
The rest of the day is at your leisure to enjoy exploring Yogyakarta.

Day 4: Train from Yogyakarta to Malang
Today you leave the city behind and transfer to Yogyakarta railway station to begin your journey to Malang.
Watch the stunning landscapes fly past as you head east to Jombang station where you disembark and drive up to the cool mountain city of Malang.
Spend the rest of the day at leisure exploring the city.
The mountain city offers a romantic charm with its amalgamation of Dutch colonial influence and classic Indonesian style all spread across the laid back city. Enjoy wondering through the leafy boulevards and enjoying the fresh mountain air whilst taking in the sites of the city.

Day 5: Drive to Mt. Bromo
After breakfast, it is time to check out of your hotel and continue to drive to the Bromo area where you can spend the rest of the day at leisure, ready for an early start the next day.

Day 6: Sunrise at Mt. Bromo and onto Surabaya
Today is a very early start but one that is most definitely worth it! Wake with a 3am start as you take a private jeep up to rim of Mount Penanjakan ready for the breathtaking sunrise over not only Mount Bromo but also Mount Batok and Mount Semeru. Take in the incredible natural beauty around you as the sun continues to spread light across the landscape.
Once you’ve taken in the scene it’s time to head back to the jeep and descend down to the bottom of the volcano and cross the Laotian Pasir (Sand Sea) to base of Mount Bromo. Make the climb of approximately 250 steps to the rim of the crater for even more jaw dropping views out across the area. (*for an additional cost it is possible to ascend the rim of the crater on horseback)
After an eventful morning, you can head back to hotel for a well-earned breakfast and a chance to freshen up before transferring to Surabaya.
Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure in the Eastern Java capital.

Day 7: Departure
After breakfast you will be collected from your hotel and transferred to Surabaya airport for your onward flight.
