A kaleidoscope of colours established by a vibrant culture and rich heritage, Thailand is a unique destination full of surprises. Enjoy a taste of what this country has to offer away from the tropical beach destinations and manic streets of Bangkok by delving into the heart of the country beginning at the medieval capital of Ayutthaya. The country’s capital for almost 4 centuries it offers enchanting ruins to wander through with a reputation as the base from which Thai culture flourished. Explore other less travelled areas such as the charming town of Uthai Thani and Nakon Pathom as well as the infamous Hell Fire Pass and the ‘Bridge over the River Kwai’ along the way.

Day 1: Depart Bangkok for Uthai Thani, via Ayutthaya
Beginning with an early start at approximately 07:30, you will depart the bustling atmosphere of Bangkok and head for Ayutthaya via the Bang Pa In. The former Royal Summer Residence of King Rama V., Bang Pa In is a stunning residence along the bank of the Chao Phraya River originally built in the 17th century that you can enjoy exploring.
Carry on to the city of Autthaya, Thailand’s capital from the 14th century through to the 18th century, where traditional Thai heritage truly flourished. Here you can explore stunning sites including the ruins of Wat Srisanpetch, Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon and the beautiful temples at Wat Chai Watthanram before enjoying lunch at a local restaurant.
After lunch, it’s time to continue on to the rural town of Uthai Thani. Set on the banks of the Sakaekrang River, the tranquil town offers an insight into local life that few tourists see. The final site of the day is the stunning Wat Chantaram (Wat Thasung), a temple offering its impressive Crystal Hall and Golden Grand Shrine.
After checking into your hotel, you can spend the rest of the day at your own leisure.

Offering you a look into a part of Thailand’s darker history, the joint Australian-Thai museum contains pictures, hand tools, audio-visual displays and interactive exhibits exploring how Allied Prisoners of War were forced to build the railway.
