Getting Around

Travel facilities around Thailand are efficient and very inexpensive, especially the buses that operate around the resorts, towns and cities. In more rural areas and smaller towns, open-ended vans (songthaews) are popular, as are taxis, tuk-tuks and samlors. There is also an extensive train network if you’re travelling over larger distances, and ferries and longtail boats are a common sight on waterways. Most tourists stick to taxis as they are most convenient and inexpensive.

 Phuket

Phuket is Thailand’s largest island and attracts thousands of visitors every year.

Phuket has a tropical climate, which means it’s never really cold. The peak season is from November to February, when the weather is cool and dry, with temperatures hovering between a toasty 23°C and 30°C. After that, the mercury hits the mid-thirties and soars until May. While you can expect rain from June to October, it’s a great time to visit since you’ll encounter less tourist crowds.

Phuket beaches offer something for everyone. Party central Patong, popular for its noisy bars and restaurants, is also among the world’s top diving sites. Unwind at Bang Tao Beach, a long stretch of sand where you can lounge or go paragliding and waterskiing. Grab a beer at Karon, walk down to laid-back Kata or go for a swim on Surin Beach.

You’ll be met by an abundance of excellent Thai and International bites while you’re in Phuket. Feast your eyes (and bellies) on cuisines ranging from Italian and Middle Eastern to Indian and Japanese. If you're searching for street-food, you'll find it at Phuket Town Central Markets and the bustling Banzaan Night Market in Patong Beach, where stalls abound with exotic fruits.

Koh Samui

Koh Samui is renowned for its nightlife, most notably its colourful Full Moon parties.

Taking place – as the name suggests – with each monthly full moon, revellers flock to the southernmost tip of Koh Phangan to dance the night away on the soft sands of this heavenly island. Chaweng Beach is a hive of activity from dusk till dawn with its restaurants, bars and nightclubs, while the island’s famous Cabaret performances offer a dazzling spectacle.

The large Central Festival Samui shopping centre is Koh Samui’s best shopping location, filled with countless options from designer labels to brilliant bargains as good as anything you’ll find in Bangkok.

Chaweng Beach is Koh Samui’s top beach destination, attracting holidaymakers with its dazzling ivory white sands, breathtaking scenery and lively nightlife. Lamai Beach offers a similar blend of fun and relaxation, whilst Bophut entices with its charm as one of the oldest beaches in Koh Samui.
