A bit about Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and is home to the country's largest city. Dubai may be the better known of the emirates, but Abu Dhabi is equally worthy of your attention. It is a little quieter than its neighbour but doesn't lack any of its luxury or style.

Old meets new here in a fascinating mixture of cultures, with historical Arabic buildings nestled alongside glittering skyscrapers that are the epitome of modern architecture. The shopping opportunities here are fantastic, there are lots of ways to get active and you can uncover some of the UAE's amazing heritage.

Abu Dhabi is home to some of the world's most exciting theme parks (like Ferrari World and Yas Waterworld), also boasting a beautiful coastline and pristine islands - like Saadiyat - just offshore. This truly is the ultimate all-round destination and one that's built a reputation for offering affordable luxury, making it accessible to more than just the rich and famous.

Discover city life in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi is one of the best shopping destinations in the world, with high-end malls and traditional souks ensuring there's a diverse retail therapy experience waiting for you. You can pick up designer outfits and high-tech electronics in the modern malls, but for the ultimate day of shopping head into the souks to test your bartering skills.

Among the best buys in the markets are gold, textiles and carpets - all of which are of outstanding quality but cost a fraction of the price you'd pay for the same items overseas - ideal if you're looking for some interesting souvenirs to take home with you.

There is a lot to see in Abu Dhabi and it's worth setting aside a day or two to do some sightseeing. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the Abu Dhabi Corniche and the Emirates Palace - one of Abu Dhabi's top hotels - are just some of the things you should see.

For some thrills and spills, head to Ferrari World Abu Dhabi in Yas Island, which boasts the world's fastest rollercoaster, or visit Yas Waterworld for unlimited splashing fun. The attractions in the city are diverse and exciting, so there's something for everyone.

Explore the desert

Surrounding Abu Dhabi is a vast desert of rolling sand dunes that has to be seen to be believed. No holiday in Abu Dhabi would be complete without an excursion into this huge wilderness. You can organise a desert safari in a 4x4 vehicle, go sand boarding and even camp out here overnight. This is a fantastic experience and will give you an insight into traditional life in the UAE away from the hubbub of the city, where camels and tents replace the modern high-end cars and skyscrapers.

Travel to the eastern city of Al Ain for the chance to visit the country's last remaining camel market, or head deep into the desert to see Abu Dhabi's tallest peak - Jebel Hafeet. As well as being beautiful, the mountain is also historically important, with more than 500 ancient tombs uncovered here that date back more than 5,000 years.

Organise a tailor-made holiday to Abu Dhabi

A holiday in Abu Dhabi is the perfect choice if you're looking for luxury and variety. The city has everything you'll need for a fantastic getaway, with the desert camps providing a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of urban living.

With its islands and beaches, as well as world-class theme parks and outstanding shopping opportunities, Abu Dhabi really does tick all the boxes. Staying in a luxurious hotel in Abu Dhabi can be easily arranged - and can be more affordable than you might imagine. The emirate is also an excellent place to spend a few days en route to Indian Ocean destinations like the Maldives, Mauritius and the Seychelles.

By booking a tailor-made tour of Abu Dhabi, you can ensure that you don't miss out on any of the emirate's most striking and memorable sights or experiences that are sure to capture your imagination. Whether you plan to be spending a few days here on a stopover or an entire week on holiday, you can look forward to coming home with some wonderful memories and beautiful souvenirs.
