Malta Holidays

Overview

A perfect combination of golden, sandy beaches and world heritage sites dating back to prehistoric times, Malta is a hidden gem located on the Mediterranean Sea, near the southernmost tip of Italy.

Malta holidays are less crowded than the popular beach resorts of the Canary Islands and the Balearics. However, this small island is just as picturesque and sunny as any other popula

Getting Around

Public transport on both Malta and Gozo is excellent, with efficient bus services that can take you to most places. Hiring a car is also a feasible way of exploring the island, and scooters, mopeds and bicycles are also available for hire. For convenience, use one of the many taxis. There is a ferry service that links Malta and Gozo, and boats link to Comino.

Like in the UK, you drive on the left hand side of the road, and your normal national driving license should be all you need.

Mesmerising Mellieha

Visit Mellieha and you will be spoilt for things to see and do.

The golden sands of Mellieha Bay (also known as Ghadira Bay) and its clear, shallow waters are a sure hit with sunbathers, snorkelers and watersports enthusiasts. Rocky outcrops divide the beach into three stretches, ranging from lively to quiet, so guests can take their pick.

Drive 15-minutes to The Mediterraneo Marine Park in historic Naxxar for a swim with bottle-nosed dolphins. Located on the coastal road, kids can enjoy playful sea-lions, turtles, pirouetting macaws and cockatoos. Check out slithery snakes and lizards from a safe distance as they roam their state-of-art reptile habitat. Malta’s only marine park also has a mini-lab play area for kids and a cafeteria.

Set aside an afternoon to visit the Blue Lagoon in Comino Island, its Mediterranean waters reflecting the blue sky, with pure white sand visible beneath. Swim, sunbathe, snorkel or simply laze on the beach.

Loved Popeye the Sailor Man as a kid? Here’s a chance to pay a visit to Popeye Village and get up close to the comic book character and friends Olive Oyl, Bluto, Swee’Pea and Wimpy! The former film set of the 1980's hit Popeye can be found at Sweethaven village near Mellieha’s Anchor Bay.

Family Holidays

Malta family holidays are growing in popularity thanks to the many attractions packed into this tiny island.

Situated on the northernmost tip of St. Paul's Bay is Qawra Point, a rocky Blue Flag beach with breathtaking views and an abundance of watersports. A lot of the coastline in Malta is rocky with lovely lidos where you can enjoy a dip. The resorts have a handful of manmade beaches and Golden Bay is a short drive away from Qawra. In the resorts, try your hand at jet-skiing, windsurfing and waterskiing, or head to the depths and try one of the scuba diving excursions on offer. Dry off on a sun lounger before rounding up the day at the beach bars and restaurants.

Take the coolest ride around the sights of Gozo on a Segway. Easy to learn and fun to drive, you can glide around the waterfront without getting tired feet. Teenagers will have a ball and the whole family can enjoy tours around the beach promenades and town. Local guides can segway with you on a tour of all the best bits.

Close to Spinola Bay is Cat Village - which is pretty much exactly what it says on the tin. The Cat Village is a little outdoor community of felines located in a narrow street! Set up around 40 years ago by a local lady, the resident stray cats are treated to their own little safe area, complete with houses, scratch posts, and even teddy bears. Cats are neutered, cared for and fed on a daily basis, making them affectionate creatures that love all the attention they can get their paws on! As a result, cat lovers will be in their element when they visit, with many of the cats happily accepting cuddles, scratches and any scraps of food.
