Expect to eat lots of fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and fish, often flavoured with interesting herbs and spices.
Like tapas in Spain, meze is the traditional way of eating in Cyprus, consisting of lots of small meals or appetizers – hot and cold, savoury and spicy. Savour the subtle but delicious flavours, textures and aromas of a variety of interesting dishes, including dolmades (stuffed vine leaves), grilled haloumi (a soft goat’s cheese), keftedhes (meatballs), klephtiko (roasted lamb), stiphado (beef or rabbit stew) and moussaka, a traditional Cypriot dish made with layers of minced meat, aubergines, potatoes and cheese sauce.
Seafood dishes such as octopus, squid, whitebait and tuna are also popular. You can enjoy as many of 20-30 different dishes as a main meal, followed by fresh fruit and washed down with a Cypriot coffee or homemade wine. You certainly won’t leave feeling hungry!
