Lhaviyani Atoll

The Lhaviyani atoll, also known as Faadhippolhu, lies north of Male. It is just 35 kms long and 37 kms wide and in spite of being smaller than the other atolls, it is made up of no less than 50 islands. Only 5 of the islands are inhabited with Hinnavaru and Naifaru being home to most of the 8000 people that live on the atoll. An unusual feature of this atoll is that its islands lie on the outer rim and are large with dense vegetation. The atoll is popular for its diving, the ‘boatyard’, in particular, offers divers the opportunity of enjoying two wrecks in one dive. Sustainable tuna fishing is the main industry in the area and seafood features widely on the islands’ menus. The atoll’s resorts offer a host of activities and facilities and are ideal for those desiring relaxation and pampering.
