If cool Caribbean vibes and picture-perfect beaches make up your travel wishlist, holidays in Tobago are calling. Life may be blissfully laid-back here but a Tobago holiday offers a plethora of enticing activities and adventure to complement its incredible paradise beaches. Perfectly formed crescents of powder-soft sand are lined with shading palm trees and atmospheric beach bars and hotels offering magnificent tropical views, while a wide array of watersports are on offer for those seeking something more exhilarating.

When you’ve had plenty of exposure at the beach, head out inland on the scenic coastal drive to explore the stunning three-tiered Argyle Waterfalls, Tobago’s most iconic landmark. A hike through thick forests to the fishing village of Charlotteville is adventurous and exciting, while the steep hairpin bends reveal cottages perched against verdant woods. From there, the amazing Pirate’s Bay is accessible via a narrow road to the ocean. You could also drive down to the Pirate’s Bay on a 4x4 trek, take a ferry to Tobago's sister isles and even embark on a trip to the cocoa estate for a tantalising taste of Tobago's famous chocolate.

Adventure seekers can also savour an unforgettable experience snorkelling through beautiful coral and swimming with dolphins around Buccoo Reef, considered one of the most spectacular reefs in the world with its abundance of colourful marine fauna. Once described by Princess Margaret to be as clear as a Nylon stocking, a pool by the same name welcomes swimmers in the middle of the ocean, or you can take a glass-bottom boat tour. Visit during the summer months or wait for winter sun, Tobago holidays boast balmy temperatures all year round whether you are travelling on a family holiday, a romantic getaway or on a honeymoon.

    Tobago's Tropical Beaches

There are plenty of picture-postcard beaches to choose from in Tobago. Miles of sandy stretches with clear blue waters welcome you to Pigeon Point, its gleaming white sands are lined with fishing huts, as well as cool cabanas and bars. Soak up the sun on the golden sands of Castara, which looks out over the village from a hilltop. For a secret hideaway, head to Campleton Bay (just before Charlotteville), where you can spy birds hunting fish in the gentle river. From here, take a boat to Lovers' Bay, where the beach turns pink with seashells embedded in the sand. Englishman’s Bay, hidden behind a thicket of almond trees, is another gem where one can explore underwater delights.

Bike Or Hike The Caribbean Coast!

Bike Or Hike The Caribbean Coast!

Explore more of Tobago on horseback, bicycle or by foot. Stroll along the Caribbean coast from Castara to Englishman’s Bay or, if you're feeling energetic, trek three hours to Pigeon Point, the highest point of the Main Ridge Forest. Walk to the Argyle waterfall and you'll pass fruit trees full of beautiful birds and with the help of a guide, you can clamber into the natural Jacuzzi on the second level. Ride horseback into the sunset through Buccoo Village, finishing with a swim on the beach (while still riding!) or soak up some village vibes in the capital of Scarborough.

A visit to the Main Ridge Forest Reserve is a must. Its hidden corners are teeming with wildlife and you can see leatherback sea turtles, armadillos, agoutis and birds such as potoos and blue-backed manakin, as you follow the nature trails. A naturalist guides you to plant species hidden in the fairytale rainforest, as butterflies flit from flower to flower. Take a 20-minute boat ride to the bird sanctuary on Little Tobago island and look out for frigate birds and the clown-faced red-footed booby. Hummingbirds are also common across the island.

    Snorkel Or Scuba in Speyside

Tobago’s warm waters offer up 60 diving sites crowned for being some of the best in the Caribbean, particularly in Speyside and Charlotteville towards the north. A glass-bottomed boat takes you to Buccoo Reef, where you can snorkel among 30 acres of coral. Englishman’s Bay and Castara Bay are also good for snorkelling enthusiasts. Pigeon Point peninsula is perfect for windsurfing, while the big waves hitting Mount Irvine make it popular among surfers.

Say hello to giant Leatherback turtles on Courland Bay, also known as Turtle Beach. These endangered sea turtles, which have been around for nearly 100 million years, can weigh up to a ton and are found nesting along the Caribbean shores. These gentle giants, along with a few Hawksbill and green turtles can also be spotted along Grafton Beach and Mt Irvine Back Bay.

Dive into the crystal clear waters of The Shallows, near Crown Point, and keep your eyes peeled for magnificent marine life swimming among the coral. You'll spot barracudas, parrot fish and tiger sharks underwater here. Hunt for kingfish and mahi-mahi with a local fisherman in the waters of Charlotteville. Or visit the Castara morning fish market and enjoy helping Tobagonian fishermen pull in the catch of mackerel and herring. Children can go and catch small fish in the cove's rock pools at low tide.

Fort James, the island’s oldest, overlooks Courland Bay and is popular among tourists for its panoramic views and tranquillity. Each year Tobago celebrates its African roots in a festival that pervades each village, with brushback dancing on hillsides, wild percussion beats and blowing of conches!

Fruits are in abundance in Tobago, with tasty treats including cassava, dasheen, passionfruit starfruit or carambola and coconuts. Sip on some fine aged rum from Royal Oak or the house of Angostura, or swig a bottle of Stag, a European style lager famously brewed on the island!
