Enjoy romance on a couples holiday to St Kitts and Nevis
St Kitts and Nevis for couples
The Caribbean is well known for being a wonderful place for couples' holidays, but St Kitts and Nevis really does stand out as a particularly romantic destination. These small islands are not as well known as some of their more popular neighbours, but therein lies their appeal - they are still relatively undiscovered and therefore ideal if you want to escape with your loved one.
The authorities in St Kitts and Nevis have also been keen to preserve the islands' wonderful natural beauty and have kept a close eye on development to prevent it from getting out of hand. They have also created numerous national parks to protect the rainforest and coral reefs, ensuring that these, and other, habitats stay in pristine condition for years to come.
Because development has been limited, there has been a definite focus on quality over quantity, with some of the Caribbean's most exclusive resorts calling St Kitts and Nevis their home. There are hotels that offer complete seclusion, while others are fantastically located just a stone's throw away from the lively capitals of Basseterre (St Kitts) and Charleston (Nevis).
Romance in the islands
With a host of stunning, white sand beaches, St Kitts and Nevis is the quintessential romantic holiday destination. Just imagine strolling barefoot along the soft sands with your partner, dipping your toes in the sea as the waves gently lap the shore. All you can see in either direction is an empty, palm-fringed beach - could there be a more perfect scene?
This is what you can find in St Kitts and Nevis and, while some of the islands' beaches are far from empty, there are plenty of secluded spots that are ideal for a romantic day out. Sandy Bank Bay, Turtle Bay and Half Moon Bay are among the quietest seaside locations on St Kitts, while on Nevis Nisbet Beach, Fort Ashby Beach and the aptly-named Lovers Beach are among the best places for a romantic day out.
An essential part of any couples holiday is having an intimate meal together at a top restaurant. Many of the best hotels in St Kitts and Nevis have fantastic onsite restaurants with wonderful seaside views - some will even be able to set up a candlelit table on the beach for you to enjoy. Around Frigate Bay on St Kitts there is a wide selection of restaurants, where you can dine in style and mingle with the locals. There are also numerous bars in this part of the island, making it a great place to come to if you're keen to have a night out during your holiday.
Secluded spots to discover
Although the beaches may be the main attraction on a break in St Kitts and Nevis, there are actually many wonderful spots to discover away from the coast. The unspoilt rainforests that cover the interior of the islands are a brilliant place for adventurous couples to get away from it all.
You can follow scenic trails into the mountains and find picture-perfect picnic spots without a soul in sight. There are cascading streams, tumbling waterfalls, verdant clearings and wonderful vantage points to be discovered on both isles. If you do decide to explore alone, make sure you take plenty of food and water with you, as well as a map of the path you'll be following.
On Nevis, you can add even more romance to your adventures by going on a carriage ride. Head to the Hermitage Plantation Inn to hop in a carriage and discover the scenery of Gingerland in a laidback and stylish fashion. All the carriages are authentic adaptations of 19th century carriages, which have been altered to showcase the unique creole style.
Luxurious hotels in St Kitts and Nevis
Spending time exploring the islands is all well and good, but you'll want to return to a fantastic hotel at the end of each day. St Kitts and Nevis is home to some outstanding resorts, which offer all the facilities you could ever need on a romantic break for two.
In addition to well-appointed rooms and suites, you'll find swimming pools, landscaped gardens, private beaches, fitness centres, spas and multiple restaurants and bars on hand to ensure you have a holiday to remember.
The country is a particular favourite among honeymooning couples, with the high-end hotels in St Kitts and Nevis catering especially well for newlyweds.
