Holidays in Punta Cana
Punta Cana is situated on the eastern tip of the Dominican Republic on the Atlantic Ocean. This part of the Dominican Republic features a long and almost unbroken stretch of white sand beach, crystalline waters and a coral reef. These spectacular beaches have been defined by UNESCO as amongst the world's most beautiful. Punta Cana's coastline is backed by flat coastal countryside, a large lagoon and mangrove forests. The long coral reef protects the beaches providing ideal conditions for bathing and water sports such as windsurfing, sailing and scuba diving. The natural beauty, pleasant climate and warm Dominican hospitality have made Punta Cana one of the best holiday destinations in the region.
Activities on offer in Punta Cana include swimming with dolphins, go-karting and golf. Local excursions are also available to explore the islands of Saona and Catalina or cruise along the Chavon River. The East National Park is home to caves with pre-Columbian petroglyphs and the remains of a Taino village. A visit to Santo Domingo is a must for sightseeing and shopping - look out for local rum, cigars and amber products. For those who are feeling really adventurous, you could take to the skies on a helitour of the area. Superb hotels, amazing beaches and an unbeatable welcome make Punta Cana an ideal choice for a holiday in the Dominican Republic.
