Getting Around

Transport in Egypt is generally efficient and getting from A to B should be easy. Taxis are a great way of travelling between cities and resorts, and car hire is also possible. However, drivers need to be at least 25, and you’ll want to be a confident driver. Drive on the right-hand side.

The bus network is extensive and runs regularly, while microbuses can be found pretty much everywhere.

Sharm el Sheikh

Sharm is a fantastic beach resort perfect for the whole family to enjoy an al inclusive break.

If you’ve always fancied having a go with some scuba gear, learning to dive in the crystal clear Red Sea is a must. You'll find some of the best diving sites in the world here and whether you're a beginner or not, there are plenty of spots to brush up on your skills. You can even sign up to an accredited course to work towards your PADI qualification, where you'll eventually head for more advanced reefs and wrecks. Once qualified, you can dive again and again!

By day this lively resort is packed with holidaymakers topping up their tans and enjoying the watersports. At night, it morphs into a party town that revellers will love! For hard-core clubbers, Pacha is a must, although there are plenty of slightly tamer lounge bars to enjoy too.

If you're a food lover, then you've come to the right place. Sharm el Sheikh is brimming with restaurants serving major cuisines from around the world, alongside its own authentic Egyptian dishes. Na'ama Bay and Old Sharm boast some of the best restaurants around the resort including Fairuz.

Luxor

Luxor’s ancient attractions are its main draw and there's certainly plenty to choose from.

There's the majestic and the Karnak Temple Complex on the city’s east Bank, and the iconic Valley of the Kings on the west. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even see the ancient sights from up high on a hot air balloon! After all the sightseeing, hop onto a felucca and sail down the Nile to Banana Island and on the way back you’ll be treated to the most glorious sunset over the river. If you've got time to kill, enjoy a stroll along the Sharia al-Corniche, a beautiful riverside walkway that runs from Luxor to Karnak, scattered with shops for you to browse as you go.

Whether it’s rolled falafel or tasty kebabs, North African cuisine is mouth-wateringly good. The restaurants on the East Bank, such as Sofra on Mohamed Farid Street, are exceptional and offer authentic fare at reasonable prices. Besides dishes like stuffed duck and rabbit, you can also relax over some minty tea or Shai bi-na'ana at a café.

The port of Safaga is just three hours from Luxor and framed by rugged cliffs, making it a memorable stopover. The steady winds and the Red Sea’s turquoise waters make it a favoured destination for diving and windsurfing. Take a road trip to Aswan, passing traditional villages along the way, before visiting the Edfu temple and an unfinished obelisk. Don’t miss a motorboat ride to Philae Temple Island, where you can visit the legendary Temple of Isis, the goddess of magic and fertility.
