One of the older beach resorts in Thailand and popular with both locals and tourists alike due to its proximity to the capital Bangkok, Hua Hin has a lovely stretch of beach, a great selection of street food restaurants to choose from along the main strip and some beautiful hotels scattered along the coastline.

If you’re looking for a beach destination away from the hustle and bustle of the city which offers enough to do to keep you busy but is still relatively quiet, the former fishing village of Hua Hin could be a perfect holiday destination for you. Ideally reached by road, approximately 3 hours from Bangkok (depending on the traffic), it’s a great choice for those wishing to avoid an additional flight or a lengthy boat transfer to the one of outer islands.

With a wide stretch of sandy beach, it’s not surprising that Hua Hin offers many exciting watersports. Windsurfing, kite boarding and parasailing are a particular favourite as the easterly winds’ aide these sports perfectly. Water-skiing and jet skiing are also popular as are the more family-friendly banana boats and donut rides. If land-based activities are more your cup of tea, then a high speed go-karting track can be found just outside the city and horse-riding on the beach has become very popular with both beginners and the more experienced riders.

    Black Mountain Water Park

    Black Mountain Water Park

This has become one of the most popular tourist attractions in the area in recent years and it’s not hard to see why. Located approximately 15km outside of Hua Hin, the waterpark offers a great choice of water slides including the exhilarating Black Wave and nerve-testing Purple Speed to the gentler Green and Wide Wave slides which are a little more suited to the younger guests. There’s also a lazy river, wave pool and a children’s adventure pool to keep everyone entertained and happy! This place really does provide a great day out for families and thrill-seekers alike.

    Baan Villapin Artists Village

    Baan Villapin Artists Village

If you’re interested in local art and would like to try painting or sculpting, then this original arts centre is a popular choice offering classes for all abilities. Home to about fifteen artist families, they also exhibit all of their work, which ranges from woodcarving and clay sculpture to oil paintings, photography and costume design.

Khao Tao And Hat Sai Noi

Khao Tao And Hat Sai Noi

Located approximately 20km south of Hua Hin, and best reached using one of the local taxis, is the village of Khao Tao. Here you’ll find Hat Sai Noi, a beautiful stretch of secluded beach and the perfect place to visit if you’re looking for something a little quieter (although we would recommend visiting it during the week and avoiding the busier weekends and public holidays). There’s also a large temple complex perched on a cliff above the bay which is worth visiting and contains several Buddha statues and shrines.

    Shop At The Night Market

    Shop At The Night Market

There’s a good selection of night markets and bazaars which are worth a trip to but do check which days they open as some are not daily. If you just fancy a browse, then people-watching is great, but if you’re after a few souvenirs then these markets are a great place to pick up a few bargains! Remember to barter hard though as the stall holders will often start with a price which is double that that they would accept. If the whole bartering process is done in a light-hearted way, it can be fun for all those involved!
