Egypt Holidays

Overview

Egypt holidays are perfect for travelling back in time or for a luxury beach break at a great price. Luxor’s ancient tombs and Giza’s pyramids rub shoulders with the gorgeous resorts in Marsa Alam and Sharm el Sheikh, while Hurghada city fuses old traditions and new influences flawlessly. If you like to get active, there’s plenty to keep you entertained during your holidays in Egypt. Travel to Alexandria and marvel at Pompei’s Pillar, which overlooks the grand ruins of the original settlement.

A perfect destination for travelling year-round, Egypt is best visited between the months of September and April. Christmas, New Year and Easter celebrations in Egypt receive heavy footfall from all across the globe.

After you have checked in at your hotel, soak up the sun on mile-long stretches of soft white sand and dip your toes in the crystal-clear waters of the Red Sea, or dive a little deeper and explore some of the world's best scuba diving sites. Thanks to its toasty year-round temperatures, you can potter around giant pyramids, splash in sparkling pools and sink into golden beaches whenever the mood takes you!

Getting Around

Transport in Egypt is generally efficient and getting from A to B should be easy. Taxis are a great way of travelling between cities and resorts, and car hire is also possible. However, drivers need to be at least 25, and you’ll want to be a confident driver. Drive on the right-hand side.

The bus network is extensive and runs regularly, while microbuses can be found pretty much everywhere.

Sharm el Sheikh

Sharm is a fantastic beach resort perfect for the whole family to enjoy an al inclusive break.

If you’ve always fancied having a go with some scuba gear, learning to dive in the crystal clear Red Sea is a must. You'll find some of the best diving sites in the world here and whether you're a beginner or not, there are plenty of spots to brush up on your skills. You can even sign up to an accredited course to work towards your PADI qualification, where you'll eventually head for more advanced reefs and wrecks. Once qualified, you can dive again and again!

By day this lively resort is packed with holidaymakers topping up their tans and enjoying the watersports. At night, it morphs into a party town that revellers will love! For hard-core clubbers, Pacha is a must, although there are plenty of slightly tamer lounge bars to enjoy too.

If you're a food lover, then you've come to the right place. Sharm el Sheikh is brimming with restaurants serving major cuisines from around the world, alongside its own authentic Egyptian dishes. Na'ama Bay and Old Sharm boast some of the best restaurants around the resort including Fairuz.

Hurghada

Hurghada may not be as well known as Sharm, but it more than holds its own as an alternative all inclusive resort.

Hurghada is perhaps the hottest destination in Egypt for diving into the Red Sea, where you'll encounter stunning coral reefs and colourful fish. The conditions are just perfect for a beginner to learn diving as well as for veterans. The Abu Nuhas Reef has four shipwrecks to explore for those looking for thrills. You can also try windsurfing and kiteboarding on the waters!

No visit to Hurghada is complete without shopping for exotic wares for your family and friends back home (and something for yourself, of course!). Sigala is full of fantastic souvenir shops and bustling bazaars, selling everything from shisha pipes to spices. Head to the Senzo Mall in New Hurghada for big brands or explore El Dahar for busy backstreets full of local craft stalls.

An hour from Hurghada is the beautiful Mahmya beach famous for its crystal clear waters and white sands. The coral reef is within swimming distance, so don’t forget to pack your snorkel! Off the water, there are activities like Beach Volley, Soccer and SEA-SPI to keep you occupied.
