New secretary General for Caribbean Tourism Organisation

Hugh Riley has been appointed as the new Secretary General for the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO). Riley, who is from Barbados, had already been working in the same role on a short term basis but Chairman, Hon. John Maginley, has confirmed that the role will be a permanent one as of 17 August 2009.

Maginley, who is the Minister of Tourism of Barbuda and Antigua, said:

"I am pleased to announce that after an extensive search and a thorough selection process, the CTO Council of Ministers has offered Riley the position of secretary general and he has accepted."

"Riley has an intimate knowledge of the tourism industry and a sound strategic vision for what the region's tourism sector needs in order to remain competitive and to thrive, particularly in these trying times. We are confident that he is up to the challenge."

Riley will run CTO's offices in Barbados, North America, Europe and the UK, and his role will be to work closely with travel partners such as Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) and the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA), to develop strategies to encourage people to take Caribbean holidays across the region throughout the year.

The Caribbean has always been a popular choice for travellers looking to take a range of Barbados holidays, Antigua holidays, or Jamaica holidays, whether it is a romantic break in St Lucia or family Caribbean holidays in the Bahamas.
The Caribbean Tourism Organisation plays a vital role in providing communication, human resources, marketing, research, and technology services, internationally.
