Kempinski Hotel Muscat in Oman opens to guests following three-year delay

The Kempinski Hotel Muscat has reopened to guests, three years after its scheduled opening. Formerly known as Kempinski The Wave, the hotel has been renovated with design led by Woods Bagot which reflects traditional Omani hospitality and has been inspired by Old Muscat destinations. The hotel has 310 guest rooms and suites, as well as ten restaurants, a health club and a spa.

Kempinski Hotels has announced the opening of the Kempinski Hotel Muscat, following extensive transformation programme. The hotel, which was formerly the Kempinski The Wave, was originally scheduled to open to guests in 2015.

The hotel in the capital of Oman has 310 guest rooms and suites, and its refurbishments were led by designers Woods Bagot. The redesign of the hotel was inspired by Old Muscat destinations such as the Muttrah Corniche, and its lobby has been inspired by the Al Alam Palace which is resided by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos.

Carsten Wiegandt, the General Manager of Kempinski Hotel Muscat, stated: 

"We aim to offer a combination of local traditions inspired by Omani hospitality and world-class luxury to guests visiting the Sultanate, guaranteed to create unforgettable memories. Oman’s rich culture and diverse landscape places the country as a must-visit destination for tourists.”

“The beaches, green valleys, caves, mountain ranges, traditional markets, and architecture of numerous historical monuments are major attractions for tourists from around the world.”

The renovated hotel has an array of upscale facilities including ten gourmet restaurants and bars, a health club and a spa. The spa was designed by Resense, the Swiss luxury wellness expert. The facility has separate sections for men and women, and it has a couples’ suite, a double treatment room and a health club. There’s a gentlemen’s spa with treatment suites, a barber’s and a relaxation lounge. Additional facilities include a female-only gym, a studio for fitness classes, and a juice bar.

The luxury hotel also caters for large events, special occasions and business events with is meeting and function space. There’s a 1,100-sqaure-foot pillar-free ballroom which can accommodate up to 700 guests. The diamond-shaped building has 11 naturally lit functions rooms with state-of-the-art technology and audio and visual equipment.

Muscat is the capital of the Sultanate of Oman and is bursting with art, theatres, shops, and beautiful natural landscapes including sandy beaches and turquoise sea. Tourists can visit attractions such as the Royal Opera House, the Muscat Gate Museum, the Natural History Museum and the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. The city is a hotspot for scuba divers and snorkellers due to its surrounding crystal-clear waters that are home to colourful marine species and coral reefs.
