New tourism campaign promotes authentic experiences in Nicaragua
Nicaragua looks to spruce up its tourism sector as it launches a new advertising campaign that encourages visitors to take part in authentic trips and tours. Titled "I like you just as you are", the campaign is designed to lure all kinds of travellers and emphasises on the country's three key points: Nicaragua's fascinating culture, stunning nature and friendly people.
During the past years, Nicaragua has grown significantly as a holiday destination. In an attempt to continue boosting the country’s growing tourism industry, the Nicaraguan government has launched a new initiative under the name “I like you just as you are”. The advertising campaign seeks to draw the attention of worldwide visitors by promoting authentic experiences, focused on the country’s most striking traits; from the beauty of its well-preserved nature to the colonial magnificence of its historic centre and the charm of its humble and warm-hearted people.
Encouraging visitors to discover Nicaragua’s true essence, the campaign calls out to all types of people and situations; from business travel and health and wellness to cruises and sailing holidays. Sun and spacious beaches; adventure and activity tourism; nature tourism; culture and identity tourism; rural community tourism; agritourism; ecotourism and gastronomic tourism are some of the offers the campaign focuses on.
“I like you just as you are” will be promoting Nicaragua through videos, vignettes, canvasses, billboards, painted buses and bus stops, stickers, posters, t-shirts, hats, planners and calendars. In addition, press conferences and press trips to different destinations will also be available and the tourism industry has already signed alliances with transport businesses and cooperatives, service providers, media and telecommunications companies.
Moreover, this initiative looks to energise and diversify the country’s economy and market segments by promoting services by small and medium sized tourism companies. These efforts join the ones made in recent years, which have amounted to Nicaragua receiving a total of 1,787,260 foreign tourists in 2017, an 18.8 per cent year on year increase. From the UK alone, the country welcomed 17,389 tourists, a 2.8 per cent on the year before.
Tourism in Nicaragua has grown considerably recently, and it is now the second largest industry in the nation. Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega has stated his intention to use tourism to combat poverty throughout the country. The growth in tourism has positively affected the agricultural, commercial, and finance industries, as well as the construction industry. The results for Nicaragua's tourism-driven economy have been significant, with the nation welcoming one million tourists in a calendar year for the first time in its history in 2010.
