St Mary’s Court Antigua debuts with Rum Bus Beach bar

A new beach bar has opened in south-west Antigua, attached to St Mary's Court Best Western Premier Hotel, which is under construction and due to debut next summer 2018. The unique Rum Bus Beach is themed around an imported London routemaster bus, and is also the official bar of the Caribbean's iconic Mount Gay rum brand.

St Mary’s Court Antigua debuts with Rum Bus Beach bar

A new unique beach bar has opened on Antigua’s south-west coast. Attached to the St Mary’s Court hotel currently being constructed by Best Western Premier close to Jolly Harbour, Rum Bus Beach started welcoming customers this summer ahead of the hotel’s planned opening next year.

Fronting onto a pristine white sand beach, a red London Routemaster bus was transported by freight from the UK to form the centrepiece of the bar. Inside, the decor is themed around it with old bus seats and bright red furnishings.

Rum Bus Beach is also the official bar for the Caribbean’s famous Mount Gay rum brand. Drinks are served from inside a large bus window, and visitors are encouraged to graffiti the surrounding panel in black marker.

Spreading out into a large grassy area bordering a section of Crabb Hill Beach, the bar has numerous cabanas and beach huts, plus sunloungers and umbrellas for customers to enjoy the sunshine and the beach. The bar serves cocktails and local beer, while the menu features casual pub-style food such as gourmet burgers and fries, grilled chicken and salads.

St Mary’s Court is scheduled for a summer 2018 opening in nearby Harbour View, a short walk from the tourist hub of Jolly Harbour. The new hotel will feature 126 guest suites with private terraces, a rooftop pool and garden pool, two restaurants and a cocktail bar.

King and twin double rooms will be available, as well as interlocking rooms for families and large groups. The hotel will also offer an on-site spa, fitness centre plus free breakfast and wifi.

As well as being within easy reach of Rum Bus Beach, the hotel is sited close to many of Antigua’s best beaches, including Ffryes Beach, Darkwood Beach and Jolly Harbour Beach.

“We are excited to be a part of the esteemed Best Western Premier brand.”

Said St Mary’s Court owner Adam Barrett.

“We look forward to providing travellers an exceptional, affordable stay, and helping them create special memories during their time in Antigua.”

Said Best Western Hotels’ Senior Vice President of Brand Management Ron Pohl

“The property exemplifies the type of value and upscale experience that the Best Western Premier brand aims to provide our guests.”
