Qatar Airways launches four new weekly flights to coastal city of Sohar in Oman

Qatar Airways launched four new weekly flights to the Sultanate of Oman. The airline added the four services to Sohar, a popular coastal tourist destination in the north.

Sohar is the airline’s third destination in Oman, and the new weekly flights brings their number of weekly flights to the country up to 56 from 52. The flights were added in response to increase demand from travellers.

“We are delighted to see robust demand on our Doha–Sohar route, especially given that we launched the service only last month.

“The increased frequency will allow both business and leisure travellers from Sohar even more flexibility to take advantage of smooth connections to India and Southeast Asia via our hub at Hamad International Airport.”

Stated Akbar Al Baker, the Chief Executive of Qatar Airways.

The new flights to Sohar will be operated on an Airbus A320. Sohar is located in northern Oman, 100 kilometres from its capital Muscat. It is famous for its beautiful safe beaches, and is known as the mythical birthplace of Sinbad the sailor. The maritime town was once the capital of Oman in ancient times, due to its thriving port. Holidaymakers can visit the historic forts and castles such as Sohar Castle or the Sohar Fort and Museum, or head to the large souk and pick up a local treat from fishermen, fruit sellers, tailors and craftmakers. The nearby wadis, warm springs and the Jebel Akhdar (Green Mountains) are a playground for nature and adventure enthusiasts.

Qatar Airways is an award-winning airline that is the state-owned national carrier of Qatar. The airline started operating flights to Oman in 2000 with the launch of a service to Muscat, and it added Salalah to its network in 2013. The carrier operates five daily flights between Doha and Muscat, two daily flights between Doha and Salalah, and now four weekly flights to Sohar.

Oman is a country in the Middle East, which has become a popular tourist destination over recent years. The nation has welcomed the development of new luxury hotels and resorts, and its natural attractions are a draw for tourists such as the soaring Hajar Mountains, Masirah Island, which is home to nesting turtles, Musandam Peninsula on the Straits of Hormuz with its impressive wadis, and Wahiba Sands with miles of huge sand dunes.
