Elite Island Resorts appeal to help Barbuda
An appeal to help the beleaguered island of Barbuda rebuild in the wake of Hurricane Irma has been launched by luxury Caribbean hotel group Elite Island Resorts. The hotel management company, which runs several resorts on Barbuda’s sister island of Antigua, said it will match public donations of up to $100,000.
Elite Island Resorts, which runs several luxury hotels in Antigua, has launched an appeal to raise funds to help the citizens of Barbuda rebuild their island, which was left devastated by huge Hurricane Irma that ripped through the Caribbean in recent weeks.
The hotel group aims to raise $100,000 to rebuild lives on the small island, which is one half of the twin-island nation of Antigua and Barbuda. As part of its campaign, Elite promises to match public donations up to $100,000.
Elite Island Resorts commented:
“The people of Barbuda are strong, wonderful human beings. They will rebuild, and Barbuda will be better than ever, but they need your help. 100% of the funds we raise and donate will go towards specific, critical projects like rebuilding schools, medical facilities, and housing.”
The hotels it represents in Antigua, including St. James's Club & Villas, The Verandah Resort & Spa, Pineapple Beach Club, and Galley Bay Resort & Spa have all committed to this donation-matching campaign.
In addition, they, along with local grocery store, Epicurean Fine Foods & Pharmacy, have committed to donating a further $100,000 in cash and emergency supplies.
Antigua’s sister island Barbuda was hit by the full force of Hurricane Irma as the eye of the storm moved directly over the island in the early hours of 6 September 2017.
Nearly every home and building on the island suffered severe damage, including schools, medical facilities, homes, and businesses.
Urging its former guests to give generously, the Verandah Resort and Spa said:
“Please open your hearts to those who have opened their hearts to you by providing you with wonderful Caribbean hospitality. Now is your chance to make a real, tangible difference in the lives of those affected by Hurricane Irma. Thank you.”
