New eco-boutique Hotel Carmen opens in Dominican Republic

A new hotel has opened to guests in the lesser-known mountain town of Jarabacoa in the Dominican Republic. Hotel Carmen is a luxury eco-boutique hotel that is owned by Hostales de Montana.

Located in the Los Corozos area near the town of Jarabacoa in the central region of the Dominican Republic, the hotel has 16 mountain-style wooden huts with a total of 24 guest rooms. The wooden huts have private terraces, air conditioning, wireless internet, dining areas, and private bathrooms.

During their stay, guests can enjoy access to the facilities of the nearby Jarabacoa Country Club. These include a swimming pool, tennis courts, a film theatre, and a restaurant, as well as activities such as horse riding and golf. The hotel is located 20 miles away from the Cibao International Airport.

The town of Jarabacoa is considered to be the birthplace of ecotourism in the Dominican Republic, thanks to its emerald slopes and winding river. Located in the foothills of the Cordillera Central, the town is perfect for travellers who are looking to enjoy outdoor activities such as rafting, hiking, cycling, canyoning, and nature walks. One of Jarabacoa’s best sights is the Pico Duarte, the tallest mountain in the Caribbean, which soars 10,164 feet into the sky.

The town’s Parque Central is home to some bars, but if tourists want to experience a more bustling nightlife, the city of Romana is 20 miles from Hotel Carmen, with shops, restaurants and beautiful beaches.

The Dominican Republic is one of the leading tourist hotpots in the Caribbean. The nation shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti, and its terrain is mountainous and home to lush hills, rainforests and miles of pristine coastline. It has become a favourite destination for eco-friendly nature-loving travellers, and it boasts 16 national parks and 67 protected areas that are teeming with diverse wildlife species.

Across the nation’s coastlines, holidaymakers can catch sighting of spectacular marine creatures such as humpback whales and dolphins in La Samana, and baby sea turtles on Saona Island. Inland, the country’s rainforests are home to hundreds of colourful birds and reptiles, while its national parks boast flamingos, Hispaniolan Solenodons, crocodiles, rhinoceros iguanas, and the dwarf Geckos, the smallest lizards in world.
