The Siam hotel welcomes wellness experts to its Bangkok spa

Experts in Thai massage and reflexology will be taking up a residency at The Siam’s Opium Spa this July. The luxury Bangkok retreat will host massage and reflexology artisans for "Thai July" offering guests 60-minute treatments based on ancient local healing practices.

Thai masters trained in the art of Tok Sen massage, Sakchai Kaewratanapatama and Tanakit Thitiwong, will offer the holistic therapy said to enhance the effects of Thai massage by tapping pressure points on the whole body using a special hammer and wand. The art of Thai massage has been practiced for centuries and developed in Thailand combining acupressure and energy balancing techniques.

The Tok Sen is made of wood from a tamarind tree that has been struck and charged by lightning and then blessed in a Buddhist monastery. Originally prescribed by wives to their husbands after a hard day's work in the fields, they would gently tap along the body to ease aching pains. A painless technique, the tapping creates a resonance that passes through the muscles to dislodge any stubborn tension and relax the body into a sense of wellbeing.

Visiting wellness artisan Dr Tanat Dolamphornpisut will also be in residence at The Siam offering guests a unique 60-minute Thai foot reflexology treatment intended to detoxify and purify the body. The technique has developed to incorporate elements of Chinese Tuina, Japanese Shiatsu and Indian Ayurveda yoga. Referred to as "the healing touch", Thai reflexology gently manipulates pressure points in the feet, hands and ears to encourage the flow of Sen energy channels and restore balance.

The five-star Siam resort is situated in three acres of tropical gardens on the banks of the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok’s royal Dusit district. The programmes at the resort's Opium Spa range from 60-minute treatments to four-day retreats based on the ancient practices of Ayurveda, Reiki and Yoga and tailored to guest’s needs.

Alongside its luxury spa, the 39-room hotel has restaurants, a cooking school, bar, café, gym, yoga terrace, Muay Thai boxing ring and an infinity pool.
