Crystal Cruises' Serenity Ship docks in Grenada for first time

Crystal Cruises launched the Serenity ship in Grenada for the first time earlier this month. The luxury vessel docked in St George’s harbour, bringing more than 1,000 holidaymakers to the island.

As well as holidaymakers, the ship brought 655 crew members to Grenada, who were able to enjoy the Caribbean island’s attractions. These included the captain of the huge ship, Egil Giske, who has visited the destination before.

Captain Giske, commented:

“I love the beaches, warm Grenadian people, delicious food and spice.”

Grenada is beautiful island in the Caribbean that over the decades has become renowned for its production of spices. These include ginger, cloves, organic cocoa, wild coffee, cinnamon, mace, orange/citrus peels, wild coffee, and nutmeg.

The tiny volcanic island boast magnificent natural landscapes including the 2.5-mile-long crescent-shaped white sand Grande Anse beach on the south of the island, and the contrasting Black Bay beach which has powder-soft black sand and is fringed by lush vegetation.

Holidaymakers can visit the Annadale Falls, Concord Falls, Levara National Park, Grand Etang National Park, Mount St. Catherine, the Seven Sister Waterfalls, and the government-run Laura Herb and Spice Garden. Diving enthusiasts can explore the Underwater Sculpture Park which is home to a replica of the Christ of the Deep and a statue of a young girl, Sienna, who is a character from the book “A Different Ocean”. The book was written by a local author, and it tells the story of a talented free diver who is betrayed by people who use her to find lost treasure.

Additional attractions on the island include Belmont Estate, a former 17th century plantation where the renowned Grenada Chocolate Company produces its sweet treats, Whisper Cove with a marina and restaurant, and the bustling spice market in St George’s. During their stay on the island, tourists can also head to Levara Beach to watch turtles lay their eggs.

Crystal Cruises is an award-winning luxury cruise line that has been named as Travel Weekly’s Best Luxury Cruise Line 2016 and Travel + Leisure Magazine’s World’s Best Cruise Line 2015. The company recently announced that it will be refurbishing two of its vessels: Serenity and Crystal Symphony.

Both of the ships will reduce their passenger count to replace smaller suites with larger penthouses. The Crystal Dining Room restaurant will be renamed as the Waterside Restaurant, and The Lido will be called the Marketplace. Entertainment will be provided by the Tony Award-winning Broadway producer Kevin McCollum, who will bring dancers and singers to the stage on both ships.
