United Arab Emirates records increase in long-stay international visitors

The average length of stay for travellers visiting the United Arab Emirates has increased, according to ForwardKeys, an analysis group that predicts future travel patterns. Short stay travellers remain the majority in the region over the last 12 months, but there has been an increase in longer stay visitors who are visiting the emirates for more than three nights.

United Arab Emirates records increase in long-stay international visitors

New data released by the analysis company ForwardKeys have revealed that travellers are staying for longer during their visits to the United Arab Emirates. The region has seen a rise in the number of visitors staying between six and eight nights.

Shorts stays of between one and three nights continue to be the strongest market over the last 12 months, with 67 per cent of arrivals to the United Arab Emirates. The study shows that more travellers are choosing to stay more than three nights when they are connecting between Asian destinations and Europe and America.

“These findings show significant progress in the UAE’s attractiveness as a destination and further potential advancement for the UAE economy.”

Explained Olivier Jager, the Chief Executive at ForwardKeys.

Visitors from the UK, USA, and Kuwait are said to be the main contributors to the growth of short-stay and long-stay visitors to the region, and the number of Chinese long-stay visitors soared when the free visas were introduced for them in November last year, with many visitors from China celebrating New Year’s Eve in the UAE.

Predictions for later this year indicate that long stay bookings in Dubai are already up by 28 per cent, compared to last year. Many of the visitors originate from Europe and the United States, as booking increase over the Easter period and spring holiday period.

ForwardKeys uses the transactions of 16 million bookings a day to analyse future travel patterns of international travellers. The service is used by hotels, travel marketing companies, destination marketing departments, car hire companies, travel agents and tour operators to help them stay ahead of trends and monitor traveller arrivals.

The United Arab Emirates is a region in the Middle East that is made up of seven emirates: Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Ras al Khaimah, Ajman, Sharjah, Fujairah, and Umm Al Quwain. The most popular emirates are Dubai and the capital Abu Dhabi, both of which are strong business hubs, and home to modern architecture, tourist attractions, luxury hotels and historic sites. The emirate of Ras al Khaimah is emerging as a favourite tourist destination thanks to the recent construction of new luxury and mid-scale hotels and tourism attractions, and its beautiful natural landscapes that are comprised of red deserts, soaring mountains, miles of sandy beaches, and turquoise lagoons.
