Oman Hotels and Tourism Co. to build ten new hotels in Oman in next five years

Oman Hotels & Tourism Co. has announced its plans to add ten new hotels to its portfolio over the next five years. The three and five-star hotels will be located in various destinations across the country.

The board of the company has put together a five-year business plan which is aimed to meet the requirements of the market in Oman, while increasing their presence in the Sultanate of Oman. In 2016, Oman Hotels & Tourism Co. recorded a seven per cent fall in revenue compared to the previous year, which was mainly due to a decline in occupancy levels and room rates.

“The business plan has been formulated to develop ten new 3-4 star hotels at the strategic locations around the sultanate within next five years.

“The company is confident that these improvement measures taken by the board will help to increase profitability.”

Said the Oman Hotels & Tourism Co. in a statement. Oman Hotels & Tourism & Co. runs hotels in Oman including the Ruwi Hotel in Muscat, Al Wadi Hotel in Sohar, Sur Plaza Hotel in Sur, and the Desert Nights Camp in the Sharqiyah Sands. The company sold the Al Falaj Hotel in February last year for RO14mn.

The company added that an increase in visitors to Oman is expected in the near future as the airport undergoes expansion, and the development of road networks are expected to be completed by the end of 2017. The Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre will also open in the near future and is expected to benefit the country’s tourism and hospitality sector. The facility will have four hotels with 1,000 rooms in total, as well as a large shopping mall, a business park and a nature reserve.

Oman Hotels & Tourism & Co. is not the only company to expand its portfolio in Oman. Marriott International will open four new hotels over the next five years, and the Oman Ministry of Tourism (MoT) will open three new budget hotels within Muscat in the next few months.

Located on the Arabian Peninsula in the Middle East, Oman is a country that has become popular with leisure and business travellers over recent years. More than 2.5 million travellers visited the sultanate between January and October in 2016.
