Abu Dhabi International Airport records rise in passengers in January

Abu Dhabi International Airport recorded an increase in passengers in January, 2017 with more than 2.2 million international visitors passing through the facility in the United Arab Emirates. The airport traffic figures were up by 2.6 per cent compared to the same month in 2016, and the majority of passengers originated from India and the United Kingdom.

The number of passengers travelling through Abu Dhabi International Airport in January, 2017 surpassed two million. Figures for airport traffic increased by 2.6 per cent compared to the same month last year.

The total number of visitors passing through Abu Dhabi’s main airport reached 2,209,515. The number of take-offs and landings at the airport totalled 14,666, which was a one per cent increase compared to January, 2017.

The majority of passengers originated from India, and traffic between Abu Dhabi and India increased by two per cent in January. The UK was the next most popular route for travellers, with a 14.1 per cent increase in air traffic. This was due to the increase in passengers travelling from London (23 per cent), and the addition of a third daily service operated by an Etihad A380.

This year, Abu Dhabi International Airport celebrates its 35th anniversary of operations. Since it opened in January, 1982, the airport has become the gateway to the United Arab Emirates and it is home to more than 50 international airlines that provide routes to destinations all over the globe.

The airport offers state-of-the-art facilities and services for travellers, including self check-in kiosks, complimentary Wi-Fi, and remote check-ins. Passengers can enjoy access to children’s play areas, luxurious hospitality lounges, and a wide choice of restaurants and duty free outlets.
