Baha Mar Mega-resort in Bahamas will open his first tower in April

The famous Baha Mar Resort has been the hot topic of debate in the Caribbean over the last few years. After being hailed as the mega-resort of the Caribbean, the development’s main investor, Sarkis Izmirlian, went into financial difficulty and the project was put on hold two years ago.

Now, it has been announced that the first tower of the resort will open to holidaymakers on 21st April, 2017. According to the Director General of the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Joy Jibrilu, the tower will be one of two Grand Hyatt hotels and will bring 801 guest rooms to the complex, replacing the original Baha Mar Casino & Hotel.

As well as a second Grand Hyatt hotel with another 1,000 rooms, there will be three other hotels on the development that are due to open at the end of the year. These include SLS LUX at Baha Mar, Rosewood at Baha Mar and Melia Nassau Beach Resort, which will become the Melia at Baha Mar.

The Baha Mar complex is situated on the beautiful New Providence Island in the Bahamas. As well as luxury hotels, the mega resort has a 50,000 square-foot retail village with boutique shops, local Bahamian arts and crafts markets, restaurants and entertainment venues.

Travellers of all ages can enjoy fun attractions including a 20-acre Eco Water Park with a pool experience, and three luxury spas, including the largest spa in the Caribbean. There’s an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Course; the largest convention centre in the Bahamas with 200,000 square-feet of space that will be used both for business and as an entertainment and sports arena; and a 100,000 square-foot casino which will be the Caribbean’s largest gaming complex.

New Providence Island is the main island in the Bahamas, an archipelago in the Caribbean. The island is 21 miles long and seven miles wide, and its city, Nassau, is the capital of the Bahamas. Nassau has become a popular tourist destination, and it is home to casinos, luxury hotels, shopping malls and restaurants. Popular attractions include Ardastra Gardens and Zoo with flamingos, Fort Fincastle, the beautiful Cable Beach, and the National Art Gallery of the Bahamas. At the city’s natural harbour, tourists can take glass bottom boat tours, or sail to the offshore Blue Lagoon Island.
