Carnival's new ship to set sail for Bermuda
Carnival Cruise Line's largest ship to date is set to make its maiden voyage in the spring of 2018. Carnival Horizon, the second ship in its Vista line, will begin its career between Barcelona and New York before transitioning to a permanent base in Miami. From there, Horizon will make regular trips to Bermuda for six- and eight-night voyages.
Carnival Cruise Lines recently announced that their newest ship, Carnival Horizon, will make four-night voyages to Bermuda. The ship, which will carry 3,954 passengers, is currently under construction in Italy. Carnival Horizon is expected to begin sailing to Bermuda in the summer of 2018. Horizon will be a 133,500 ton ship and the largest ever built for Carnival.
Prior to its Florida-based voyages, Horizon will spend its first summer in New York, where it will make six- and eight-night voyages to Bermuda from the Big Apple. The ship will also have regular voyages from Barcelona during its first year.
Beginning in the spring of 2018, Horizon will make regular voyages from Barcelona through the Mediterranean. Ports of call will include Rome, Naples, Dubrovnik, Sardinia, Malta, and Greece. On May 9, the ship will make a two-week-long transatlantic voyage before transitioning to New York. From there, Horizon will make a series of eight-night Caribbean voyages throughout the summer. From September of 2018, Horizon will be based out of Miami.
Horizon will join its sister ship, Carnival Vista. Launched just nine months ago, Vista is Carnival’s first new ship since 2012 and its largest. Like Vista, Horizon will feature many amenities, including an IMAX theatre, an 800-foot-long peddle ride around its top deck, and an enormous WaterWorks Aqua Park, featuring a water slide. The peddle ride, known as SkyRide, is one of Carnival’s stand-out features. Horizon will also feature new stateroom categories, including the Family Harbour cabins and Havana Cabana cabins and suites. The ship will include numerous features to appeal to families, including the famous Dr. Seuss at Sea, for families with children. Amenities and features that are exclusive to Horizon will be announced at a later date.
Carnival was founded in 1972 by Ted Arison and is a pioneer in the idea of shorter, more affordable cruises. The line is based in Miami, Florida, and has a fleet of 25 vessels which are known for their vibrant, colourful atmospheres. Horizon will be the second in the line’s Vista line. Carnival currently transports more passengers than any other cruise line.
