Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has debuted its first hotel in Sri Lanka with the opening of a new hotel in the country’s capital, Colombo. The Movenpick Hotel Colombo is located in the heart of the cultural and commercial districts of Colombo, near the National Museum, Liberty Arcade and Colpetty market.

The five-star hotel has 219 guest rooms and suites over a 24-storey building that has a striking diamond-patterned façade and a unique hanging garden with over 14,310 plants and flowers. Accommodation boasts views of the Indian Ocean or the bustling city, and amenities include flat-screen TVs and complimentary wireless Internet.

Executive level rooms and suites offer access to the Executive Lounge, as well as Nespresso machines, while business travellers will have dedicated rooms with a separate welcome reception and lounge area.

Andreas Mattmüller, the Chief Operating Officer for Movenpick, Middle East & South Asia, stated:

“We are offering guests a vertical experience like no other, giving them the opportunity to view the beauty of Colombo from a new perspective.

“Mövenpick Hotel Colombo is an inspirational modern landmark that… signifies a new era of prosperity for an island nation re-energised and undergoing rapid development.”

There’s a rooftop bar for drinks at sunset, and rooftop swimming pool where guests can take a dip to cool off in the heat.

Travellers can work out in a fitness centre that is 100 metres above ground level, and there’s a spa with a variety of replenishing treatments and services. For business guests, there are five meeting rooms and a board room with state-of-the-art visual and audio technology.

Colombo is a fort city, and the capital of Sri Lanka. Once a key destination on a major trade route, the oceanfront city is home to preserved architecture that dates back to the days when it was ruled by the Dutch, Portuguese, and British. Its Colonial buildings stand alongside modern shopping malls, and on the outskirts of the city is the verdant Viharamahadevi Park with its diverse wildlife and giant Buddha.

Movenpick Hotels & Resorts is a Swiss-based hotel management company that operates more than 80 hotels and resorts in 24 countries.

There are currently a further 20 hotels planned or under development in destinations like Bali in Indonesia, Nairobi in Africa, and Chiang Mai in Thailand.
