The Dominican Republic has been named as the “Caribbean’s Best Golf Destination 2016”. The country has been awarded the title for the third time by the World Golf Organisation.

The Dominican Republic is a firm favourite for golfers due to its wide selection of golf courses that face the ocean or are surrounded by verdant tropical landscapes. The country also boast more than 80 oceanfront hotels and resorts that offer upscale facilities for golfers, and the all-year-round warm climate is an added bonus.

Magaly Toribio, the Marketing Advisor for the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism (MITUR), commented:

"Dominican Republic is delighted and honoured to be recognised for the third time by the prestigious World Golf Organisation as the Caribbean's Best Golf Destination 2016. This award speaks to our unrelenting commitment to provide both the infrastructure and first class services in our hotels and golf courses to maintain the loyalty and happiness of those who choose to visit us, allowing us to reinforce our position as the Golf Capital of the Caribbean with 26 internationally-recognised courses – the largest offerings in all of the Caribbean and Latin America."

The Caribbean nation offers 28 world-class golf courses that have been designed by golfing legends like Jack Nicklaus, Pete Dye, P.B. Dye, Tom Fazio, Robert Trent Jones, Sr., and Gary Player. Some of the leading golf courses include the Punta Espada Golf Club in Cap Cana, La Cana at Puntacana Resort & Club, Teeth of the Dog and Dye Fore at Casa de Campo.

Some of the best places to enjoy games of golf in the Dominican Republic are Punta Cana, Puerto Plata and the country’s capital city, Santa Domingo. Non-golfers will find plenty to do during their stay, such as relaxing on palm-fringed white sand beach, swimming in the turquoise sea, whale-watching, snorkelling, trekking through verdant nature reserves, hiking up the beautiful mountains, or visiting the historic Colonial Zone and museums, and cobbled streets of Santo Domingo.

The World Golf Awards are a subsidiary of the globally-recognised World Travel Awards, and they recognise the best golf courses, hotels, resorts and destinations across the world. The votes were decided by professionals within the golf and tourism industry, as well as members of the public including golf consumers.
